Rain Chamber Enclosure

Okay, I've had this idea to make an enclosure with a "rain chamber". First I got some insulation foam board and glued 2 pieces together in sections. I used a wood burning tool to carve it out. Next spray painted, sealed and waterproofed it. All paint, glue, etc. is waterbased and non-toxic. The bottom is 1/4" screen and I'll have a drip pan with a drain. I used a shower curtain for the liner and attached to enclosure with velcro (great stuff). The next set of pics will be the actual drip set up and rain chamber.

Here is the wood burning tool I used. The drip hose is tubing wrapped in wire so I could bend it the way I needed to. Then I burned 4 small holes in the bottom of it with the WBTool. The shower curtain is loose at the top so when the water drips in, it sags down to where the holes are in the liner (I also used the WBTool to put the holes in the liner. The catch pan drain was made by using the wood burning tool to cut the hole out. I used aquarium silicone to secure and seal the funnel. There will be another bucket that the catch pan drains into. To get the water up to the top, I'm using a water fountain pump that will be on a timer.

So it is a portion of the cage? or it is the cage with a dru and wet side?

I just mist everything in my large free range and let them dry out aftwards lol. But my big guy henry has his own range and does tend to go to a dry spot in his range during misting if he isn't in the mood to get wet.... I'd like to hear back from you on what your guys ends up doing.

Just to clarify..... your draining the used water into a catch bucket and pumping it back to the top of the cage?

No way! I'm going to have a 5 gal water bottle with the pond pump in it. Another 5 gal bucket to drain the water into. Keep in mind that it will be on a timer and not on constantly. So I figure I'll have enough water to last all day. I haven't set it up in the room yet and timed the water, etc.

:( Like I said, I haven't actually set it up in the room to see "how" much water I will actually need. Also, this is a 36x36x24 enclosure for a baby melleri. I plan on a free range will he's growing. :D

I am really interested in seeing how this works out for you. Keep up posted please :).

p.s. i want to free range but don't think it will work.

What does this mean?

i tried to use a pond pump to make my own mister and i couldnt get enough pressure. i think the "head height" was 4.1ft and i connected it to tubing and used a garden mister head and it just dribbled out. but when i hooked the same tubing straight to a spiggot it misted like no tomorrow. i think the GPH was something like 145. So i would go higher than that if you want a mist and not "big ol' fat rain" just a suggestion from someone who wasted a bunch of money and a whole saturday afternoon. :D

i thought chams hated the color red?

 Really, and you know that for sure? Keep in mind that there will be pothos climbing up the back wall and plants galore. It will not be that apparent. I guess I could have just bought a MistKing System but I'm the type of person that likes to create and make things work out of what I have. Since this is an all screen cage I needed something to help keep heat and humidity in. The foam board helps in that matter and also I wanted something unique that I created. The shower curtain "rain chamber" is something I dreamed up and I had the pump. The tubing wouldn't stay in place on the top so I wrapped it in wire so I could bend it to the shape I wanted plus it weighs it down (pretty smart for a girl :p ). I thought the catch pan with the funnel was pretty clever too! I do accept constructive critisism well, and yeah it's nothing like Summoner12's elaborate set up. I'm not an engineer and I think I did pretty good for a girl. :D

Donna that sounds wonderful, I can't wait to see it with all the plants. If I am counting correctly you still have just over 2 weeks :D:D, I know waiting is not a problem:eek: i love the innovative and creative way you approach things.
