So I don't know if this goes here or not, if it doesn't I'm sorry. But..Do breeders ever look at the pictures new owners post of the cham they bred and sold and regret selling them.? Like they see a male with these amazing colors and want him back.? Didn't know if this happened or not. Just curious if this happens.

Hi. you just read Ecoreef's post. LOL

Yeah. :) lol. I saw your post and was wondering if breeders really do look at pictures of past babies they hatched and want them back.

I miss the guy but he's in good hands. I have almost 50 eggs from him that will hatch soon so he will live on in my household in some fashion.

Dang. That's a lot of eggs. Have you sold any male babies that weren't showing all their colors though and then regret selling them because of how they turned out.?

Sometimes.

But only if the animal is unusual.

I sold a veiled to an acquaintance back in the mid 90s that I saw a year later and it had become a bright orange lizard with green bands and spots. Was unreal. I really wanted it back for breeding, but the owner didn't want to give it up and was moving away. No intention of breeding- it was a pet only. Felt like a waste and there were no fancy morphs of veileds at that time yet.

There have been species I have sold all the offspring and I regret that now as well because now I am much more interested in multi-generational breeding.

And then there are cases like this year, where in my bearded dragons I have never purchased translucent or leatherback animals, and it has been a couple of generations since I brought in outside bloodlines (last ones in were blood reds 2 generations back). Suddenly in some of my hold backs this year, I find a few that look like leatherbacks and 3 translucent (with solid black eyes). Either these morphs came from Kevin Dunne's blood red dragons or from dragons either directly from me or related to mine many generations back from the same founding stocks I brought in over the past 20 years. So now I'm wondering how many of these I've set loose on the world possibly over the years unwittingly as 6" babies before I noticed the traits and if the originators of one or both of these traits came from my own animals somehow, and feeling like I'm holding the first class ticket but the plane already flew away...

But if you are talking about regret because of emotional attachment- no not really. I actually get very excited when my lizards are going off to a new home to share the love for the animals and happy they will enjoy a meaningful life with someone...

I was talking about colors, and how they turn out. :) that was a wonderful answer, thank you. Multi generation breeding.? Like keeping one from each clutch and breed them to see....?

One more question, do you ever feel hesitant about who you sell too.? Like do you ask questions about set up or how they want to care for them or anything.?

Yes- multigenerational breeding- like I've had a few lizards with ancestors going back 20 years- I'm breeding their great great or whatever grandchildren today- new generation every year or two.

And also, yes selective breeding for certain traits over generations.

When my veiled and hoe babies are old enough to go to new homes,
i absolutely plan to question any potential buyer on their care.

unless its a forum member, in which case.. duh.
