Quick question on night-time lights?

Hello everyone.

I have a question about the lighting and tempatures at night for captive Chameleons. [Rather a noobish question]

I see there has been quite a bit of debate on the lighting for night. Some say to change the bulbs to blue or red bulbs to emit heat but give off a 'night-time' feel, while others say turn off the lights all together.

Are red/blue bulbs a no go for night, or nessasary? I am trying to see everyone else's opinions. If I do need to use the coloured bulbs, I need to go about switching the regular bulbs every night, correct?

Also, if the lights are completely shut of, where does the warmth come from through the night? I may have read the answer to this somewhere before and just payed it no attention.

One noob question has turned into several noob questions! I just want to make sure I know all I can about chams before obtaining one.

No light at night-period. If your house drops below 60 you may consider a ceramic heater that will provide warmth.

I'm not sure about the heat as my setup is a little different so I have a constant heat but as far as night lights I found the red bulb keeps my cham awake but the blue type is fine. The only thing is the blue type is so dark it only lights up anything very close to it so don't expect to be able to see too much.

Definitely not a required item other than your own viewing pleasure.

I have a heater, so I can use that if needed. Our normal house tempature is around 70 degrees.

Night time temp needs to drop below 70 for many species.
What are you keeping?

Honestly, it may be below 70 degrees at the moment. Long winter months, and it has been extremely cold the past week. And if I placed it in my room and not the others, it would be cold throughout the year due to my room getting the least heat ventilation.

I am most likely getting a Veiled, but I am also considering a Panther.

Panthers can handle temps around 60, veileds can handle temps around or even below 50. I doubt you need any night time heat and, as said, a ceramic heat bulb or a space heater.

Honestly, I keep my red bulb on overnight, because like you...my room gets VERY cold at night since it's winter in Missouri. I sit it a decent distance from the cage though so it's not TOO warm. I have my space heater on for me, but I wouldn't think it reaches my cham.
