what are these little fruit fly looking gnats i have the are really fast in there movements and very annoying i cant seem to get rid of them i think they came from in my cricket tubs

If you punch holes in a deli cup and put some rotting vegetables in it the phorid flies will go in there to breed. Just take the container outside every few days and release the flies and clean the container out if you want to keep the numbers down. Keeping the cricket cage drier also helps.

These phorid flies can kill spiderlings and maybe even adult tarantulas. They lay their eggs in or on them and the larva kill the spiderlings. They can also get into your eggs and clean them out.

I am anal about my cricket container and I have the little flies too but they can't be from my crickets. I brought my passion flower inside for the season, could they come from that? It isn't in the chams cage but the little flies end up there. Can they do any damage aside from hurting eggs? I worry about them affecting the chameleon, I wondered if they could spread parasites..? They are itsy bitsy flies. I never see them land even.
