Questions regarding rescued Jacksons habitat

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if you can recommend a few things for me.
1) I do not think the Exo Terra thermometer and hydrometer are reading properly, I am not seeing much of any fluctuation with heat/no heat and misting/non- misted times. I know the change is there, however it is simply not detecting it! I am looking to invest in a digital; however the local stores have several brands to pick from! What do you all like?
2) I am not able to acquire the feeders I would like to offer my Cham, such as roaches, silk worms, horn worms, etc. The local shops told me they do not have enough market for it and as such will not special order them. Who do you guys like, who has great quality feeders with reasonable shipping rates?
3) I am noticing on many of the other threads that most of you do not use a sub straight with your Chams. I understand the reasoning behind this and as such have some concerns with what I have been using? I have been buying Reptibark for the bottom (he has never gone down, but I just rescued him and he has only been moving around for 4-5 days now (in his tree tops). I use reptile soil for the top several inches of his plants so he has no exposure to the potting soil or perlite. Do you guys feel he could be at risk of ingesting the Reptibark? I will remove it right away if this is the case!! I have known others to use peat moss, however I always felt it would hold mildew and be impossible to clean so I never utilized it.
This little guy has come back from near death since I acquired him and is still a long way from healthy so I need to ensure he is in as stable an environment as humanly possible!! One aspect off could be the difference between him making it or not!! Good news is he has been observed drinking readily from his dripper on many occasions as well as always lapping water off the leaves following misting sessions since Sunday :D

Thank you in advance for any feedback!!

Hello, here goes, and in no order,
get rid of the substrate asap, it does pose a risk so why chance it?

Is he in screen or glass? If you don't see temp variations is is most likely the them gauge, if he is in glass, he stand a very good chance of overheating and dying.

Go online and do a search for the feeders you want. dubia (roaches) are illegal in Florida, but the others are available.

I have to head to work but I will get feeder info for you later today. I will check in as possible while at work. Send me a PM if you need something right away. I will be happy to help you save that guy.

Thank you,

He is in a 24 X 24 X 48 wire Reptibreez. I know the cage has variations in temp because you can feel it even just by sticking your hand in :D I also see this guy move himself around to the various areas, he appears to be forming a regular routine. He wakes up, gets a drink, grabs a bite of food from the new ones I put in, basks for a while (I reduced the watt bulb and slanted the angle some so he no longer mouth breaths), he spends about an hour basking before heading over for a "shower" under the dripper (he really enjoys sitting under the drip and getting wet :D He will then spend a while just walking around the entire enclosure (from top to midway down height of cage) looking and nabbing a bug every now and then. He then can be seen basking again for about another hour before doing it all over. I find it funny that I can look at my clock and pretty easily find exactly where he is in the cage based on what time it is :D

Oh i love this thread!! There is no rescue involved. You have it going on for your cham, great work. Now we can just enjoy your cham together.:):):)

Thank you! He was a rescue I took in about three weeks ago (almost four). He was in bad shape, but has made an amazing recovery and fast!!
