hi guys,
I have a veiled cham thats been digging for 7 days on and off, so yesterday I though that maybe the tank I was using for her to dig in wasnt deep enough so I bought a deep bucket for her to try.
Shes been in it all day today (about 13hours straight now.) I cant see her in there so I have no idea if she ok but dont want to disturb her.

So just wondering 2 things.

How deep should the bucket be?, and

How long should it take from digging to coming out of hole having laid the eggs? is 13 hours normal?

so far so good.
Just give her a complete privacy.
You don't want to bother her and make her notice that you knew where she lay her eggs.
She could cancel her digging and that could put her in danger of egg binding.

When Lily laid her first clutch she was digging when I got up in the morning and finally finished covering up and went back up to the branches at 10.30pm that night. So in all the whole process took roughly 13-15 hours, possibly longer if she started digging at dawn.

Wow, thats a long time!
I take it they must sleep down there or something. Did Lily come out the hole at all or permanetly stay down there till she was done?
Iv been worried about her the last week so its really fustrating not being able to see if shes ok :(

She should come out on her own. Have you been feeding her everyday as much as she can eat?
That makes for bigger clutches and more stress on the chameleon.

no she's been rufusin food for the last week and she's been diggin on and off for the last week, 2day is the only time she has spent this long in the hole in one go

They usually don't eat for about a week or two before laying.
Think of it this way, you have 60-80 err.. softballs below your stomach, pushing against it, making your stomach have less room for food..
Then finally... pop! All of the baseballs get out, and you're ready for foooood, delicious food.

Before she stopped eating, how much would you feed her?

No she spent the whole day in there, from when she started digging until she was done filling in the hole. She didn't dig a tunnel, she dug down into the corner of the laying bin. I covered the cage leaving the tiniest gap to peek through so I could keep an eye on her without her seeing me. I do believe that sometimes they do sleep in the hole and continue again the next morning.

I fed her abit more than I usualy would as I read that you need to do that so she has the strength to push out the eggs and still be ok afterwards.

shes still in there and it almost midnight hear....so thats about 17 hours now....hope shes out by the morning.

Still didn't answer my question. How much do you NORMALLY feed her, and how often?

If you were originally offering her a glass tank to dig in, the problem may have been that it wasnt opaque. The laying container has to have solid walls, letting no light into her tunnel.

I've had female panthers finish in less than 6 hours, and also take as long as 15 once. The seem to prefer to dig 12+ inches down, and often will go as deep as the container will allow them!

My laying bin is a 10 quart bathroom trash can oval in shape there is aprox. 11 inches of eco-earth mixed with play sand. I also cover my cages when the girls are laying!

Okay. She shouldn't have too big of a clutch then. Has she come out?

nope, she normaly does up to her spot that she sleeps in at 6pm ready for when the light on a timer to goes out at 7pm and is then active around 7am the following morning....so im assuming she is asleep in her hole and will become active again around 7am! (fingers crossed.)

Can you hear her digging. I listened carefully last night and I could hear my girl digging
