Questions about passing on traits...

I'm a little nervous about picking out a young chameleon that isn't showing any color yet. Do they usually end up looking a lot like their dad? Or can they look totally different sometimes? What about size? If you have a baby from a huuuge male, will the baby most likely be huge?

Sorry if these are stupid questions... I come from horses, and I would strongly recommend against buying a young horse unless you know what you're doing. So I was just curious if it's the same way with chameleons.

I'm currently stuck between these two breeders:

I'm also waiting for a couple people to email me back, so I might have a couple more choices to throw in there

Thanks for the help.

Looking at pictures of the dad (sire) will give you some idea, but the babies can turn out totally different in size and or color. I would also look at the dams lineage as well, particularly what her brothers from her clutch look like if pictures are available. Traits come from both sides, so having an idea of what the sire and dams traits are will help make your decision easier I am sure. Good luck!

vince form screameleons is allways close to what the sire is he works real hard for that! i have a ton of chams from him and all are close to what the sire look like. like some one said its allways hard to be right on the money when you are working with genes. screameleons is a good place to buy and im sure others will tell you the same

Dont forget to look at the traits of the mother, her siblings and parentage. What you end up with, if relatively "pure" bred, will look very similar to the parents. If hybrid, it can be an exciting roll of the dice.
