Is it a good idea to set up a larger enclosure type outside in the natural sunlight for chams? I live in Florida, and we have nice weather outside for the majority of the year, would my Chameleon enjoy having a larger enclosure to have outside on my porch during the day with some different plant species, such as hibiscus and etc. which are more difficult to maintain inside? (Keep in mind this would be in addition to an enclosure I have set up inside my home)

Please feel free to post any comments, suggestions, and feedback, as well as pics of setups you have so I can get some ideas!

Thanks!:D

This is a great idea! Most cham owners in warm areas will make an outside enclosure for their cham. Its a good place to take your cham for basking. Just make sure you dont use UV resistant screening of course.

Not only is it a good idea, it's a fantastic idea. Sunlight does wonders for keeping chameleons healthy and happy! Try to place the cage in a place that gets partial sun, or sun through trees or something, so they don't cook in the full sun. They still get plenty of UV in the shade, and they have the option of going from full sun to shade to regulate their temps.

Mine have been spending days outside in their cages and they love it!

Oh! i just thought about this. I don't think I have really heard much on it, but if your cham is outside a lot you may want to be very careful on the D3 you give them, because all those wonderful rays allow for natural D3 creation. I would recommend having an expert confirm this for sure. I know most animals are like that. Either way, unless you are giving them way too much D3 to begin with I wouldn't expect any ramifications.
