I just got a very young veiled, the guy at pet store suggested putting him in a 6 gal aquarium until he grows a little, this is to keep humidity higher and to confine his food. he also told me to just use the exoterra UVB bulb and a heat pad (stuck to the side of the glass, not bottom) for the time being and said that would be enough to keep him happy.

I'm not positive that he's eaten but I don't see the cricket running around anywhere and he has pooped once (got him yesterday).

he just kind of sits at the top by the UVB and is a dark green color at most times, should i be worried about this yet? I'm guessing the temperature just isn't where it should be.

curious your thoughts on this setup as it is new to me.

Carol is correct, this is just more of the bad advice pet stores give people when they sell chameleons.

Hi tiagmc, I recommend taking a look at the caresheet as carol and laurie have suggested. A screen cage is best for a chameleon to allow for ventilation. Assuming the part of the states your in has the right climate, it may or may not be easy to keep the humidity up.

In my case, here in the midwest, humidity seems to be a big issue in my house so I keep him in my bedroom (no natural sunlight :[), and have a MistKing. If you've got the funds or are willing to invest some money into the hobby, there are other options as well.

Chameleons don't use heat pads... they like to bask in the sun, so you'll need a heat lamp. Good skill with your endeavors
