New Cage Concerns!

Hey, everyone!

Rango’s new cage has been dropped off as a screen repair shop, due to the condition of the cage. It should be ready in a day or two!

Anyway… Because of such a major environmental change, I’m worried that Rango may not be able to climb as well or that he may fall because of the stress. And, with his bone disease, I’m also a bit nervous about him exploring heights for the first time.

Should I add some form of padding to the bottom of his cage? Also… does anything go on the bottom at all? It’s fully a screened 2x2x4, and the bottom panel is made of plastic (I think).

(I do not want the cage to be bio active, but I will be adding plants later on!)

Chams are quite resilient and can withstand falls from high heights. Littlefoot has slipped a few times, it's alarming but she was fine. Add lots of sticks, so if he ends up on the bottom he doesn't have to screen climb back up.

For the bottom most of us use a drip/drain tray, to catch the water on the bottom.

That white pan under my cage is a washing machine drain pan from home Depot. It gives you a bit more room to open the bottom screen. I can also add a hose to drain into a bucket below. I've drilled holes in the floor panel of the cage where the water pools, so there's no stagnant water in the cage.

This post has other ideas.
