Question about water?

Hi everyone, I have a fish tank in my chameleon enclosure, the water is always kept clean, I never use chemicals, I've heard not to have fish tanks in setups due to bacteria levels.... Ive had similar setup in the past and my Veild chameleon loved it! never got sick or anything. I'm just a little worried after hearing that a chameleon could get sick.
I like the water cause it helps to keep humidity up.
Well just so you all know that I do not have a chameleon as of yet.
Just looking for some thoughts and Ideas.
thanks!

Yea most people will tell you they run the risk of drowning, although I agree that I think that's difficult. And with a few twigs or something coming out of the water I don't see a big problem.

BUT, I don't know. It's not super natural either... If you were thinking of doing a huge walk in enclosure with a pond on the ground I would say go for it. But because I assume we're talking about a cage (how big, by the way?) I don't know. Although people keep little ponds of water in their dart frog or gecko enclosures, so I guess why not.

That's the best I can do lol I think it's a neat idea and I'd love to see it finished, though. You'd have to figure out how to not have an excessive amount of water accumulate because you'd still need to mist the chameleon, and all this would drain to the bottom and possibly to the fish tank. So you may have some water/drainage issues to consider.

I know that they wont drown as chameleons can swim, very funny to see.

not\ true\ they\ rarely\ can\ swim.its\ not\ a\ safe\ risk.\ as\ for\ anything\ placed\ in\ the\ cage\ for\ drinking\ remember\ they\ like\ moving\ water.\ just\ because\ your\ other\ didnt\ get\ sick\ does\ not\ mean\ anything\ for\ a\ new\ chameleon.\ if\ you\ wanna\ keep\ humidity\ up\ get\ some\ plants.\ pothos\ is\ great\ for\ humidity\ because\ its\ quick\ growth\ puts\ water\ into\ the\ air.
remember\ most\ chameleons\ cant\ swim\ they\ were\ built\ for\ life\ in\ trees\ not\ in\ water.\ if\ u\ want\ something\ that\ will\ swim\ get\ a\ fish

hey thanks for the help, I do have on or two pics up of it, its about 5' 5' by 20" depth, I plan on getting low level plants that will drink up any extra water, my idea was to have it as natural as possible when I get my misting system I'm going to try and keep it to the water side of enclosure to prevent over watering. it is sitting at %40 R/H with fogger, when its all finished i will most def post a pic!

I would advise against it. There are safer ways to provide humidity. A tank in an enclosure is not natural looking anyways.

if u have to have the tank in there put a screen lid on it to keep the cham out.
that would take care of the risk of him getting in it

Fish tank/terrarium

I made a very natural Asian themed terrarium, with a fish pond and waterfall on the bottom with bamboo coming out of the water as his trees above, he seemed to love it! Especially when I caught him eating the fish.. It was beautiful but took constant cleaning!! And as he got bigger I eventually decided to free range but with that said I had no health issues with it and like I said he seemed to love it!

I never knew they eat fish

They don't...I suppose one might try, if it got intrigued by some in a captive situation, but it's not very likely. Some large wild chams (Parson's, melleri) snag small birds or nestlings but this doesn't mean they do so on a regular basis.

Seems like a lot of trouble for not a lot of benefit to me. All the water changes and cleaning, disturbance, time, etc.
