I will be picking up my WC Trioceros q. quadricornis this week as soon as his cage arrives and is set up. He was imported around December 18. Others who have received quads from the same shipment have told me they have a heavy parasite load.
The store owner/importer told me that there weren't any airborne diseases I need to worry about and I could house him in the same room as my other two chameleons. Is that true?
I do understand quarantining protocols for servicing his cage last, hand cleaning, etc. I will be changing clothes after servicing his cage. His cage will be a DragonStrand breeder series. Three sides are solid, front and top screened so there will be nothing escaping to the next cage and I will be very meticulous to make sure that every speck of dirt that comes out of his cage immediately goes into the garbage. My other cages are screened Reptibreezes.
I'll be asking my vet, primarily an avian vet with a large reptile practice, his thoughts but I wanted to get the experienced keepers' opinions as well. You see, I really want him in my office so I can monitor him and enjoy him rather than off in a room I never use.
This is my first wild caught. Thanks.
