Quads or Meru's.... So HARD!!!

Well up here in mn its more like a month window and they could never be out in the summer here its dry a high 80s and mid 90s all summer and even during that brief month the temps spike very unexpectedly like within an hour sometimes.

Then don't put them outside, we keep the quads indoors here in Southern Cali until it cools down and then we put them outside for a few hours. They seem to be easier to keep cool and you can controll the climate easier indoors if you get it set up correctly.

I've kept both species so here a lil pro and contra list:

merumontanus:
+ very small, don't need much space, only round 20cm long
+ livebearers
+ in relation to their size giant horns
+ could be sometimes housed together
- their climate is not so easy:really deep temperatures at night and on day never more than 25°C for a longer period

quadriocornis:
+ could be definitly housed together
- need much more space than merumontanus (males could be 40 cm long !)
+ have maybe the most variable coloration
- egg layers, with little clutches (round 5-12 eggs if I remember right)
+ have also beautiful horns and fins
- they need also very low temperatures

Hope I can help you a bit. Both species need an perfect water supply and prefer it to be housed outdoors.

Careful with housing Quads together as the adult males will fight in certain situations such as breedable females being around or if the enclosure is too small you will have dominance issues. We had 2.2 living together for sometime with no issues but all of a sudden the males began to fight viciously and they now have to be separated where they can't see each other. However, we have found that multiple females do very well together and you can have one male in with them.

Harry..Pothos man. You can grow that stuff in pure H2O.

They were in together for breeding purposes. Now the females seems to like living in there together with one male rather than being separated or even without the male.
