so I have an empty twenty gallon tank that my veiled came in that is now empty and i was thinking of getting Pygmy chameleons. if anyone knows anything about them could you share it.? like general care and where to get them.?
thanks.

pygmies are harder to keep alive.
especially females.
for some reason, they REALLY dont deal well with stress... ive seen sevearl members who bought some, and had them die like a week later.
Fl chams sells them, but thye have been out of pygmies for a while.
They are very cute... and im sure others can help you with caring for one...
just keep in mind, that as a new owner, i would recommend making sure you can handle your first cham completely before commiting to a pygmy.

Thats good advice. A search will get you more info faster. I had my jackson, and cricket and dubia colonies, and figured, how much hassle would another cham be? Well, lots if done right, thats my opinion. They are cute little buggers, and I think they are very interesting, i wish I had some. They will eat small prey though, so you will also have to keep that around for them. Just some things to think about.

Under Enclosures there is a special subheading for pygmy enclosures. Here is the link if it works. Read through the information, it is very helpful when and if you decide you are going to go with pygmys. I find that they are happier if you keep 1 male and 2 females in your terrarium. They like to live in a small colony.

i agree with others that pygs are harder to keep alive although they are generally easy to care for.

obtaining them will be very difficult right now since tanzania has been closed for a while. apparently it has reopened (i heard but have not confirmed)...

I personally have had several pygs and have been looking to expand to a breeding lot for a while, but they are nowhere to be found....I couldn't find a single one at the reptile show even...

i've heard people claim their avg lifespan is 3-6months, but that is absolutely ridiculous. almost all of my pygs lived to 1+ years; but females do die off earlier due to complications that you simply can't do anything about.

if you find a source, please let me know as i'm looking to buy 10-15 of them...

I'm not looking at buying them anytime soon, just something I'm looking into as a future project. I'm going to look up a lot about it before. and I've noticed all the sites that had them before say they are sold out. I really don't know what kind I'll look at getting. anyone have any suggestions.?

R. brevicaudatus are the most commonly available species. Temporalis and spectrals are the others most often seen. Their care is pretty similar I believe.

thanks for all the help. ill definitely be doing all my research before I buy them, and like I said it wont be till later. and I can't find any available either. lol.
