Pygmies and Jacksons

I just found a site that recommends mixing jacksons and brevs. :( That's an accident waiting to happen.

No, not like breeding, just housing. For the most part, chameleons can't hybridize unless they are really closely related.

I have no idea why anyone would do that. A large jacksons and a small pygmy = jacksons has a pygmy for lunch.

What do you mean you can't do that?! I keep my Veileds with my panthers and my pygmies with them in the bottom of my cages with my gecko and turtles swimming in it....? Some people...

chameleons geckos and hermit crabs actually work out quite nicely.

stop mocking me

and lol the philadelphia zoo had an enclosure with 2 panthers a tokay and a sulcata (or something similar) in the bottom. i did have to yell at them though for keeping 2 male panthers in a cage with maybe 3 vines and a handfull of fake foliage. it was kind of faacepalm. made petco look good, lol

I think the problems with mixing species is that issues are not generally immediately noticeable or cause direct health effects and can often only be seriously evaluated over long periods of time with controls. A life span shortened by general stress is often difficult to evaluate unless there is higher instance of disease, which if you are controlling parasites and maintaining hygiene might not even manifest.

When I was a kid I put a school of neon tetras in with my red eye puffer. The tetras were gone in a week and my puffer was fat. Sometimes it is clear certain mixes don't work out well. I would think this would be one of those...

well id think if you fed the jacksons consistently you could avoid them picking off the pygmies. but then you have to worry about balancing their diets and trying to avoid potential predation, AND over feeding.

thats is a balancing game i would never want to pursue, but still probably doable if youre unemployed and have unlimited resources.
