Purse stolen!

Well, my mom's purse was stolen last night. Cards, everything, gone.

They even went through the glove box in her car. Why would they do this? Any idea?

We already called the police and credit card companies.. her driver's license was also in there.

Is there anything else we should do?

edit: Police came by, asked a bunch of questions... didn't even print the car. *sigh*

This sucks syn!had my purse lifted a few years ago when on Holiday in London, got pick pocketed!Cops couldn't do a thing!:mad:Hope you and your family have a peaceful Christmas:)

Well, turns out they took my backpack too.. of all things! A backpack!!

A whole semester's worth of work gone, and I needed all of it for next semester. Wow.

hey sabrina, that is no fun. i work for a credit union and see all sorts of fraud go on so my advice is to just monitor your bank accounts and make sure all the cards were blocked like I think you said you already did and that no other charges come through the next few days that aren't your moms.

p.s. Chad's whole truck was stolen from our driveway several months ago. We got it back undamaged - they just stole all his stuff that was inside it basically and abandoned it. However, the police didn't fingerprint that or do anything else (when we could see perfectly good fingerprints on it) other than find it for us. We thought that was B.S. too but I guess they have too many other important crimes going on to worry about that stuff. Once it was recovered they were done, haha. Oh well though, at least we got it back safely.

They won't cancel anything down at the bank because her ID was stolen too, and the DMV is closed on Saturdays around here for budget cuts.. we will only be able to get a new ID on Monday. All they did for her checking account was put a little note on the account, which is only good if they try to cash a check AT Chase, and half of the time they don't even look at the notes anyways..

I hope they aren't too busy at 6AM on a Saturday. I could see several good fingerprints, they even left a suitcase a couple houses down with stuff in it, probably also stolen.

We took a drive around where we live to see if anything was ditched. No luck. Been walking around on foot since 7AM. So far nothing.

I am SO thankful the latch to open the trunk is broken, otherwise they would have several of my belongings.. besides the backpack they grabbed.

that is BULLS**T! i know the feeling. had my car broken into in front of my house before as well. radio, cds, jacket and small toolbox.... gone. police didn't do jack. and to think. our tax dollars pay their wages.

Turns out it happened all over Apache Junction, even in the more upper class neighborhoods.
My friend texts me this morning freaking out like SOMEONE STOLE MY iPOD OUT OF MY CAR.

Well, it's either a storm of junkies or a gang-related thing.

Aww that sucks, that happened to me once, when i got back to my car everything ws gone, laptop, cd's, money, purse, but they were too dumb to get te music out of the cd player .

I wish they were too dumb to get my backpack.. really, all it was was papers.. papers that only have meaning to me and what I need.

I am so sorry you were victimized. Chances are your backpack was dumped somewhere if there was nothing of value in it but papers. Hopefully it will be found intact. As for cards, credit companies need to be called -- they have hot lines -- so they can block and track use. You did the right thing calling the cops to record the theft. This gives you and mom validity in challenging charges accrued or other misappropriations after the theft. I know it sucks -- now you have to go through replacing everything but hang in there.

Police will rarely finger print a small robery because of how much it costs them. I think for small things like that the only reason to file a report is for insurance purposes. They more than likely wont go after who ever broke into your car.

I just want my backpack back. If I don't get those papers back I'm going to have to find someone who did all their homework and has all the notes.. which is practically no one. No one will be looking for it, I'm sure, it's just a backpack.

I am just trying to figure out how to go about replacing my school items - a lot of the stuff was practically irreplaceable, such as research for projects, drawings and sketches, a couple small but expensive books..

Chase refuses to cancel the checking account with $900 in it because we don't have our ID.

I find that very upsetting, because this happened all over AJ. Seems like it was a gang related thing. The officer who was in charge of the case won't even answer our phone calls.

All you can do at this point is keep an eye out, check lost and found in the paper. Chances are since this was so city wide, people will be on the look out for weird stuff -- including the cops. They may not have the budget or human capital for printing but they did take the report, they are aware of it, and are now accountable, to the entire city, in following up -- I am sure they are inundated right now. Your bank has been informed, you have a police report to back it up. As frustrating as it is, the bank has a libility that they need to cover, and they can't without ID. And the school, I am sure they are aware of it as well. Get in touch with your school councelor about it as soon as you can.

In the mean time, keep your chin up and your carma clean.:)

Yeah I will be putting signs up this weekend. It's winter break here, I am not sure if they are at school but I'll be making calls starting Monday. Going to have a busy day tomorrow.

Chin up! Gotta keep that chin up. Something's gotta go well eventually. :)

Thanks ijm.

Syn, can't your mom use her birth certificate as ID?

It really sucks to hear about things like this, especially around the holidays. People are horrible.

Your parents, and even you, should ALWAYS get two ID's. It's $4 to order an extra online in AZ. Trust me, it's totally worth it when something like this happens. Keep one somewhere safely tucked away inside.

I'm always paranoid leaving anything important inside of my car because I don't have an alarm on it. I always lock it, but I've seen my boyfriend open my car (2005 Hyundai) when he accidentally locked the keys inside. Took him 10 minutes and a wire hanger. And since I leave my car at a park n ride all day while I'm in classes, anyone could do whatever they wanted to.

AHHH. I don't even like thinking about it.

The birth cert. isn't a photo ID.

We had two IDs. One in the glovebox, one in her purse. Looks like they took both. We came across some papers yesterday at another house close by. No checkbook or anything important, unfortunately. Not even anything from my backpack.

Ggggggggg. I'm not leaving anything in my mom's car anymore.

Oh man. That really stinks. I can't believe how bad the crime is out there. My neighbor here in Gilbert moved out and left his garage open, his sliding back door wide open, food and decent furniture still in the house, and no one has been by to vandalize or steal anything. It's been months even.

Yeah, that's understandable. I'd be soo pissed if I lost my current school work. I have ALL of my school work from the last 5 years or so. I know we didn't go to the same schools, but if you need anything, just let me know. ASU classes don't resume again until Jan. 19th, so I have some time on my hands. :p
