Well , I got home today and noticed pumpkin made use of her laying bin just about 26 days after Raul and her got busy. Her head was dirty and she was as flat as a board.
I started digging and founds the eggs at about 12 or so inches down. I started to place them in the container. When I was finished I had a clutch of 45 eggs in the container.
I was shocked. This is her second clutch She was mated about two months after the first clutch. So they should be fertile. Her first clutch was a shocking 41 eggs. Thats a total of 86 eggs in just about three months time.
I am concerned with the numbers. I feed her every other day and only about 5 (4 wk) old crickets and an occasional super and silky. When she was gravid I fed her the same with extra dusting of calcium. and a snack of silkworms and hornworms in between. I cut back after her first clutch was so large to avoid this exact thing. I plan on giving her a break. She will not be mated again and I am going to drop the temps a bit.
Does anyone have any suggestions or reasoning as to why she may be laying such large clutches? I have a sambava kept the same exact way that laid a clutch of 24 eggs.
