Puddles on cage floor OK?

For drainage, I've drilled a couple small holes in the center of my 2x2x4 cage and put a bucket underneath to catch the water from the dripper. It serves to drian the excess water and keep the cage from flooding and soaking the carpet in my room. However, it still leaves some puddles on the cage floor and around the base of the pots. Is this okay for the Cham?

Puddles of water can become contaminated with fecal matter and feeder insects can drown in it. It can pose a health risk to your chameleon.

I wipe up pooled water 2 times daily from the bottom of my small enclosure. I haven't noticed any problems in 3 years.

My larger cages don't seem to get that wet on the bottom or at least the water drains better.

I would just make sure you don't leave the water fouled with feces or stagnant for more than a day just to be safe.

My floor has puddles too, but they're maybe like 1/2 cm tall. Sometimes my cham crawls around down there before I soak it up (currently have no drains).

Wondering if this was ok or caused bacteria...

Probably though because 1-2 feeders die in it sometimes and the poops down there. :(

it would be best to get some kind of drainage going on because bacteria grows quickly espcially in stagnant water, considering the poop from cham and insects and then insects drowning in it.. no good!! if you can get some drainage going on your insects wont be drowning and the bacteria count will be way down :)

i would try drilling some more holes in it and see if that helps, maybe several close together over the bucket. you could also search drainage systems and see what other forum members have for theirs!

Could also try propping one side up just lil bit to get the water to drain to one corner or side where you drill the hole(s)

Omg. I didn't even think about drainage until reading this! I haven't seen puddels, but I haven't searched for them either.
I'm so glad I found this forum.
