Proportional Vivarium Controller.

Hey guys I am looking for a preferably Proportional vivarium controller. I know about the HerpKeeper and HerpKeeper pro. I am not sure if they are proportional however.

I would also very much like one that can turn my misters on in seconds rather than minutes (minutes will work I guess, as long as 1 is an option)

And also an android app would be nice, that allows me to mist when needed, on demand and turn my fans on.

What about ECOZONE VIVARIUM CONTROLLERS or if you're really tech savy and handy I hear the raspberry Pi are the best but you pretty much make it yourself. Vivarium Electronics VE200 Thermostat? HERPSTAT 4?

So I just bought a La Crosse wi if remote alarm system like the one here Only $38

It gives some intense sting remotely accessible info and it was under $40

NEW Temperature and Humidity Remote Monitor System with Dry La Crosse Technology

BTW those pics are from my phone and I can monitor anywhere I get cell reception it was pretty easy to hook up and no monthly monitoring costs and apparently I can hook up a bunch of extra probes

I also bought a Mist King starter system if I can figure out how to get them to work hand in hand cool. I do have a bunch of WEMO switches that I can remotely activate. Kind of duck tape Mcgyverd but I can set an alarm on my La Cross and if it get too dry or cool I guess I can turn on and off? I have Hygrotherm system running my fogger remotely on adult males cage and it works pretty nicely on its own

I looked at those, but to my knowledge it doesnt not control anything.

I need a controller, one that self controls. I was considering that with a few Herpstats but by the time I do all that, I add a whole bunch of stuff for way more money.

My house does not have central air or heat. We do, in the form of a whole house swamp cooler and heater. However like our house its old, it has high and low mechanical thermostats not digital stuff. And our heat is propane, as we get a severe discount on it. That can never be "thermostated" it can be to a point which we have already, but it will never be exact.

So the set the light and forget it thing does not work for me. I did that today, and in the afternoon (about noon) my basking temp was as it should be, 84, then I left for a bit and my wife turned the swamp off, I checked the cage temp this was as 3pm and the temp was 98 degrees.

This happens pretty much everyday, I constantly have to watch and change the dimmer. I need a thermostat.

Totally hear you yeah I'm amazed they don't have that yet but all a matter of time. 98 that's some high temps

They do have that :) the Herpkeeper and Ecozones both do all of it. The reef systems that have even more :). I have seen some people with ones that they control with there phones, but I think those ones were DIY.

I am just not sure if the Herpkeeper is proportional, however the more I look into it. It seems it is, I think they are also building an online control feature.

As of right now, the herpkeeper can do most of what I want.

I want (and it has)
  • A ramp up and ramp down for sunrise/sunset
  • Thermostat control for Heating (dont really need cooling? but maybe, as there will be fans for dry out guess they would somewhat cool, it does have that as well)
  • 2 timers for misting, 1 for a Mist King to mist the cage, another for a Rainfall System.
  • A timer for dry out fans (some PC fans on the cage to help dry it out, and cycle air)
  • Alarms and interface to see all temps, and give me issue alerts, when on the go. (it can send emails, texts, rss feeds and there is a website portal)
  • Timer for the blue night light, (30 mins before sun, 30 mins after sun)
I want (it doesn't have/might not have)
  • Android app control (Manual Activation of Misters)
  • Proportional thermostat (Dimming instead of On/Off)

Have you looked at this?https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mymobile.herp I think thats the Android app controller for the Herpkeeper

Yep and that will do it. they even a version 2 coming! I am sold, though I am not sure if the heat is proportional. Though I am curious does it really matter?

People say it does because chameleons can see light, and recognize the basking spot. However the amount of leds I plan to have in this thing will blast away anyway lol. So I am thinking that is not much of an issue.

Yep I am pretty set on this :). Now I need ot figure out if the Jungle Dawns are dimmable, if not I am going with AI Prime HD, which is brighter than a JD also 4 times the price lol.

Interesting you mention reef system I have an apex advanced system for my reef tank and yeah I can monitor and control a ton of things image.png

But cost me $1000 I'm happy enough with my $75 Hygrotherm turns heaters and misters on and off based of temp and or humidity

I use the herpkeeper, has worked really well for me. The pro model is for running multiple habitats. The regular model can run a ton of stuff, I saw no need for the pro model for just one habitat. You would have to add the net system to use your phone or computer to monitor remotely. Unfortunately, there net system is not wifi enabled, so you have to hard wire the Internet to it. Their system is really the end all be all in my opinion. It is expandable beyond belief, though it is not cheap. Digital aquatics makes a crazy amount of equipment to automate reef tanks, etc., and all of it is compatible with the herpkeeper, should you ever find the need. I found their store difficult to order from, they're always out of stuff. But I am using their temp/humidity probe, two more temp probes (expandable up to 4), and running their timers on everything. You can enter your longitude, and it will automatically advance and retard sunrise/sunset based on location and current date. I have daytime and night drop temps set as well. I run the entire system off a battery back-up surge protector, and it runs for about 30 minutes without power. I couldn't recommend this system more. I will be expanding my lighting and cooling features soon, good thing I still have 2 open channels to program.

So what LEDs do you use that are dimmable? I am a little unclear on that point. Do I need to use the AI leds?

Also when it says the AI leds it says the AI sols, they dont make those anymore and there new leds have wifi controllers built in.

also can you tell me if the heater mode is dimmable?

This doesnt cost that much actually, the non pro is pretty cheap at 130. Plus if you add stuff, but that is the same price as a Herpstat.

As to it being a Neptune, no its a relabeled Reefkeeper. It is made by Digital Aqautics they are a pretty big deal in the reef hobby from what I am seeing. I have seen the Apex and reef keeper compared alot.

I use the Finnex 24/7 LED strip. No need to use the controller on it, it has its own cycle. My other light simply turns on and off per controller settings. The LED really works well with the other lights, it sets the mood well. By the time the controller starts the other lights, the LED has ramped up to a mid morning setting.

:( dang, I was hoping you wouldn't say that lol, I like that led setup, aside from the fact I cant control the cycle and it puts night lights on all night. And the fact it is no where near strong enough for my setup. I will have high light plants and a lot of them (Living walls, bioactive floor) those leds dont put out anywhere near enough light.

Does the controller dim the basking light or shut it off when temp hits?
