Prolapse

Hi,

I have had my Chameleon for 2 years I bought her from a local pet shop, not long afterwards she began to show signs of MBD so I took her to the vets.
The vet said she was in really bad shape and she needed to be put to sleep as she didnt think she would make it. I didnt put her down and I nursed her back to quite good health. I took her back to the vets after her first prolapse I was told again to have her put to sleep but I knew my Karma was a fighter and again I nursed her and ensured she had all the calcium she needed adjusted her viv to suit etc.... She didnt prolapse for nearly a year now she has had a really big one which took 3 days to get back in kept it wet and clean etc but we worked together with it.
Now the advice I need here is that i hadnt noticed but the flap hasnt closed properly and a very small part has dried out. She is still using it (shall we say) she is eating although I have cut the size and amount she was eating. she has a really good grip on her, she is drinking a lot! but she just seems to be sitting but with her eyes closed. We have had a change in the weather and were it should be getting warmer its getting colder, I also have a beardie who seems to be in a slight brumation do you think it is possible that she is also going through the same? I do have an appointment with the vets today I was thinking maybe its time to let her go but want some advice to see if am doing the right thing and what you would do in the same situation?

Many thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums and thank you for sharing your girls story. You have been a wonderful mom to your sweet baby. You probably should have had she spade after the first prolapse but it sounds like you don't have a vet qualified to do that. I had this same thing happen to my precious baby Elly except for she didn't have MBD. I will see if I can find Elly's thread incase you are interested. Elly passed away and I am so sad to say that it might be the time for you to have to let your precious girl go. My thoughts and prayers are with you as it is not easy to have to let one of these precious little animals go.

Hi Jannb,

Thank you for your reply am so sorry to here about your Elly I will check out the thread :)

My vet is really good I know she said to let her go a few times but even she was amazed with her progress, I will be speaking to her again today just to see what she says. But I think I will probably let her go today :(
