prolaps????

hello am new to this am looking for some advice about my baby veiled chameleon. have had her for 3 days and have noticed that she seems to be "prolapsing". she seem to be passing a stool and then a white long tube pops out and a little bit of blood and then she drags her bottom around like a dog. A bit of help would be much appreciated

PS - If you cham does have a prolapse. It is an emergent case and your cham should be taken to the vet immediately.

If you cannot take to vet ASAP, Keep prolapsed portion moist as possible (luke warm water soak). and get to vet.

sorry unable to take a pic at the moment took her back to the shop i bought her from and he said that it might be a prolapse. is she being over feed perhaps? she is a lovely bright green color with a bright orange strip down her back no dark or black colours at all . I only bought her on friday. since then she has eaten about 12 - 15 crickets and has also been drinking water. she is about 2 inches long without her tail so not quite shure of her age. she is seems able to pull it back in. any ideas. also spray her leaves about 2 to 3 times a day

Hmm...doesn't sound like a prolapse but we need more info>

more details

she is in a glass terrarium with mesh top for ventilation 12"x12"x18"
she has a 23w extra high output 7% uvb bulb d3 compact reptile lamp
temp by the lamp is between 82-86 on the opposite side it is 72 -75
she has plastic vines and wooden walk ways and is located on a shelf in a corner of the living room

she is a veiled cham eating small crickets dusted with nutrobal vitamin powder and has eaten about 12 - 15 since friday when i bought her
mist her vines about 2 to 3 times a day.

her fecal description is small and white sticky but after her movment she has a white ball is the only way i can describe it hanging out oh her behind and as a result of this there is a small bit of blood so she drags her bottom along the wood like a dog and it goes back in a few minitues later as described she is very bright and green. am i over feeding her??? she seems very happy in her home walking around over her leaves and up the wall. she has only started doing this at around 4pm today took her back to where i bought her but he couldnt find any thing wrong as she seemed to have sucked it back in. hope this is enough information

Get rid of that compact lamp quick and get one of the longer tube lamps. The compact lamps can lead to UV burns and eye problems (even death!) Bad news all around. Also, make sure you're not over-vitamining her. There are some resources you can find in the feeding section to explain how to best feed a juvy female.

Can you get a Photo of her when right after she's gone and she's having the issue?

have taken a picture of it if any body can tell me what it is would be very grateful. its the lump under her tail by her bottom, it sticks out and a white liquid seeps out with it then after about 10mins it goes back in. please please help anybody

little more information:

How old is your Cham (a rough estimate is good). wild caught (WC),?

When you mist the cage, have you ever seen her drink?

How long do you spend misting the cage?

Is there a orange portion of the feces? can you get a picture of her POO with good lighting? and the blood trail too if possible? ( you may need this for a vet visit).

Hmm.

I really think that your cham needs to go to the vet. It looks like a prolapse that sounds like it is self reducing. What will likely happen is that it will stay out if you don't have it addressed. (just in case).

You may need to mist your cham for a longer period and more often to help with this prolapse. I have been hoping one of the senior members would start chiming in by now...Hopefully they will.

but it sounds like a vet visit is in order

What you are describing as white should be the urates (pee). It sounds like she is impacted.

I would get her to the vets ASAP!!!!

thanks for all your replys she is doing great at the moment took her back to the shop i bought her from and shes been good for the last few days so keeping a very close eye on her. Silly thing is eating her bark as shes eating a cricket so weather a little bit got in side her and she had to get rid of it, but who knows thanks again to every 1

Fantastic...you may still want to take your cham to vet just in case.

The other thing I am not sure I did or did not do was to tell to make sure you remove any substrate that that may have on the bottom. like you said she might have gotten a little bit in her.(good guess that may be the cause). Most keepers here will recommend that you keep no substrate in the bottom.

just to add, i saw that compact uv bulb in your cage. Yes, get rid of that sucker. i burned the crap out of my male veild. he is getting better but that thing is dangerous, and probably should be taken off the market ! if it is in the cage like it look like it is also way too close ! !

That's a prolapse. You need to see a vet ASAP.

There are some things that you need to change. from you pics i can tell that you need to change these things.
-cage, get rid of that glass one and get a large screen cage
-lights, toss out yours and get a reptisun 5.0
-substrate, throw it all away! obviously if your cham is eating it that is what is causing the problems, thats why cham cages dont use any substrate.

you should read the raising kitty website, and fill out the info below.


Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage construction (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and type of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Location - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Current Problem - The current problem that you are concerned about.
