Project: Realistic chameleon habitat

REALISTICALLY, chams are never really near the ground. Their ecosystem is high up in the canopy.

Check out youtube has some pretty neat videos. Even a chameleon crossing streets and floating across a river/pond. A member here recently found a veiled on the ground which was from a WC population in CA supposedly. So a lot of chameleons encounter the ground all depending on circumstance and species I guess.

I know first thing I think though. Is up in the trees.

Yet also they survive better up high in the natural world.

Of course they are adapted to survive better and evolved to Living a life in the trees, they are chameleons.

this is what i have for my set up a few slabs of rock around a three with plastic grass around it, very easy to clean she poops on a rock take it out wash it put it back

Ok so here are the pics of my realistic enclosure,
This is of my soil
The next is of my water table, I used rocks and mesh to separate the water from soil,
The next is a tube that goes all the way to the bottom, I've got a little pump with a tube the goes into it and sucks the water out once it gets to full,
The next pic is of the hole enclosure, the backing is tree fern backing which plants can grow on, I hope this helps

I re read Chris Andersons thread from a few years ago.. those of you that KNOW you cant keep chameleons in glass..

In the thread he has pictures of a bunch of enclosures like grimjobs. Fully planted terrariums with soil and all that. Not one person bothered him about it. So what i dont get is why is it that everyone says you cant use substrait when its a "newer" person.

I get the possibly impaction that could happen, i just dont think its as extreme as everything thinks, but then again i have not tried it yet. I plan on it in the near future.

I say, if you want to try it and willing to take the risk of it ingesting something, go for it! If done correctly, i think it will be a great setup

Good luck with it!

i have an article i think kinyonga posted it. they found small pebbles in the stomachs of wild caught chameleons. So they do indeed hunt close to the ground.

Also from my understanding veileds arent from a "high canopy" type forest. From the pictures i have seen. They are from areas with lots of tall grass, bushes and trees.
