problem

Well im afraid to say i did have to take it to the vets to have it put down, came back from work and its face was in the ground and it was struggling to breathe and i hate seeing animals suffer.

Im probaly going to take some abuse now but i took advice from the wrong people and if i knew there was a place like this with this good advice my pet would be alive now, i cant belive that the guy i brought this from can work in a reptile store and give me advice that is poor for a chameleon, i know i am new to it but you got to start somewhere and in this case i learnt from someone that i thought knew how to look after these lizards.

All i can say is thanks for all your guys help wish i came here sooner because you guys are excellent with advice and help and i know my whole 2 months with my chameleon was a experience but a sad outcome to a short chameleon life which in someways i am to blame but i did the best i could with what i was told and gave it lots of love and attention but i will have to live with my mistakes and move on.

Rest in Peace my friend

Sorry.

I am glad you found the forums too.
If you decide to keep a chameleon again, you know where to go to get the most recent husbandry information and help.
My advice would be to work on getting the habitat established and working before you bring a new animal into it.
The preparation and anticipation is half the fun.

Good luck with any future endeavors and, again, I am sorry about your girl.

I am considering getting another, well i went and purchased all the right stuff for it today and came home to find it like it was so that was a kick in the teeth as its not cheap, but il take the next one alot slower and as you said i will redo the enclosure and monitor it for a few days before i get another one, atleast with the next one i will know what i will be doing next will hopefully be the right and succesful way of keeping a chameleon and will have many good years of watching and looking after it.

Its just sad that it was a wasted life where if I was told the correct way of looking after it she would still be here happy and alive.

I'm very sorry you had to experience this and sad for the chameleon too. The advice shared in this thread was excellent and no one can knock you for coming here to find help, even though your chameleon didn't make it through.

I hope you try again. :)

im sorry for ur loss scotty, it is a shame petshops give wrong info like that. we all make mistakes its whether we learn from them thats important, and it looks like uve learnt from ur mistake, these guys on this forum are full of knowledge and its a great place to come and read up about things , ive spent many hours readin on here and i still got loads to learn lol so just read all u can and ask questions then ull be ready for ur new cham :)

wow. I would of getting a flexarium or a screen cage. Ditch the sand. Ditch the water bowl, get more leaves (fake or real) just so she can drink on the leaves. You need to shower her aloooot longer.
Like 10-20 minutes. 3 times a day. Not in that terrarium tough, it will get too wet.
You should spray every day, not when the humidity goes low.

Once you get everything set up and before you get a new chameleon, take some pictures and post them on the forum specifying what you got. This way you will know that you are starting on the right foot. There are many breeders on the forum that can sell you a healthy cham.

Good luck.

thanks for your kind words i really appreciate it.
As i said i went out and purchased bark shavings instead of the sand and got a mister, what would you suggest that a mister should be in, in terms of what kind of bowl etc, im experimenting at the moment with it and the humidity shoots straight up higher than it has been 'ever' but the mister spits alot of water everywhere and the water levels in this bowl drop fast and it turns itself off, and i got to keep the case i have for the moment but not for the long term i have to see what xmas brings :) The temperature is slowly increasing to the highest it has got again 'ever' and also purchased the all important uvb light.

This is similar to the fogger/mister i got http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=35215

Also how many plants would you suggest for me to have at this moment with my tank?

Another question, does humidity affect temperature for example if humidty is low does the temperature also drop?

Will get some pictures tommorow when i have everything up and running :)

But anyway things are starting to look promising all ready in the tank.

If u haven't opened it I would take the bark back and place either nothing in the bottom of the cage or paper towel. I would put as many plants in as can fit. Be careful using the mister in your setup for it may be too humid and stale and cause uri. Thats my opinion anyway and if I am wrong someone will tell us both. Good luck and very sorry for your loss...

Thanks for your input.
If the bark is a major problem i can get rid of it and use paper towel but it seems to make a difference already instead of the sand. But when you say paper towel do you mean stuff like 'kitchen roll' or 'toilet paper' and how does it work when you spray a high amount of water in it?

Use kitchen paper towel. I use nothing. The bottom of my cages have a layer of plastic. The excess water gets sucked up by the plants. If too much water is on the floor I use a towel or paper towel to clean it up. The plants do a good job though...

I also use nothing on the bottom of mine. After I mist I wait a few minutes and clean up any extra with some paper towels.
