problem with top screen--crickets escaping

on both of my cages i have 1/4'' aluminum screen. i cannot find anything smaller in size and my crickets have been escaping like made in my K Multi's cage since he free ranges. does anybody have an suggestions? i would just re-cover it with a larger space window screening, but i've heard somethings. also i am worried about the amount of uvb penetrating

im using window screen and since my cham is only 2 months im feeding him pinheads, and some are actually small enough to get through the meshXD. i also had to seal off the bottom because they were getting out that way too, i have no idea how.

Crickets will not have a problem getting through 1/4 inch screen. Ive used 1/4 before on chams that were being cup fed--but i generally don't like cup feeding so i now go with aluminum window screening on top.

Window screen would be your best bet! UV will have no problem getting through.
thanks fed, any particular kind i should get? i've read to avoid fiberglassm, do you know why this is? the have a grey colour at the hardware store near my house, im not sure what material it is though

Fiberglass can be chewed through by crickets in a half an hour so they'd get out anyways. Try pet screen or aluminum screen.

black aluminum screen would work fine... fiberglass would not be a good choice.. crickets eat it then cham eats cricket... not good

thanks for all the replies and tips guys. i went to my girlfriends work this morning and found grey alumminum screen. worked and stretched awsome. 2.79 a foot though:eek:

I would say aluminum window screen. The pet screen is good for the sides to protect from nail damage but you would have a melting hazard with a basking light and I think UVB would not penetrate the pet screen very well. FYI - Pet screen is PVC coated nylon.

i have fiberglass window screen for the sides and door of my cage. i did have 1/4'' aluminum mesh as posted, but switched that with a wider hole space aluminium screen.
