probe in incubator

Preferably your probe should be inside (going into) your eggbox itself (or one of them)
since you want to measure the ambient temperature surrounding the eggs.
You may have to seal around the entry point with something (blu tac perhaps).
This will all depend on what kind of incubator you are using, what its heat source is and how stable you can get it.
You should try to setup your incubator, well before your lizard lays eggs, using an eggbox containing only your medium of choice (since you will need to measure humidity aswell.)
Cant give you temps im afraid, no chameleon experience myself. I do know the incubation for them is long (up to 9 months)
so the more stable you can get it the better, (temp & equally humidity)

you might try looking at this US ebay item # 230355078952 it is called the egg-o-meter and it is an egg shaped thermometer probe designed specifically for monitoring egg (not air or substrate) temperatures inside of incubators, eggs have mass and are not necessarily the same temp as the air or substrate (admittedly the difference is negligible but if you want to remove any doubt) or if your just gadget curious, be sure to get the small size if you get one, if not i would place it ( a normal digital probe probe) half way in the substrate between two eggs. / if you cant find it by item # they probably have it at ; incubatorwarehouse.com /or it may even be available directly in the UK
