Pretty nice cages for those on a budget or want something easy outdoors

I get a lot of customers asking about keeping their chameleons outside, and a lot of people asking about my large outdoor cages. So here are some links and pics!
The crop cage is 4’x4’x6’, and great for something cheap and easy to spoil your cham! Be warned, the metal frame rusts easy so you need to re-paint It with something like rustoleum spray paint, otherwise, It is actually pretty sturdy and light weight which is great. The mesh is pretty thin, like cheap fishing line, so It can rip/tear fairly easy if something gets snagged on It, I’ve had to repair several small holes in mine. In all I’ve used these crop cages nearly 2yesrs, and still love them, though I am planning on buyinccrop netting and custom building enclosures/green houses from now on. Also, some customers said their chameleons continuously rubbed their nose raw on the mesh (though I’ve never had this problem), so be careful. It is green, and I’ve noticed chameleons either don’t see green as well (for instance at night nearly all animals/reptiles won’t be woken up with green light), so when I’ve used green mesh/wire they typically try more often and harder to push out of and escape than with black mesh/wire. Another cage I recommend to all my customers looking for an easy way to bring their chameleons outside for sunlight is a butterfly cage, like this 2’x2’x(48” or 56” tall) for $33:

Thanks for posting. I was thinking of one of those crop cages, but a lot of reviews said they didn't last long.

I can see why some reviews would say that, but mine have lasted almost two years now and are still going strong. Just make sure to reinforce the frame with some spray paint after you put it together to prevent rust and you’ll be good.

Also check for holes every once in awhile and make sure your Chameleon doesn’t rub his nose raw. Mine have rubbed there nose some, but not to the point of causing damage or making It raw. One person told me his Parsons’ chameleons did. I’d be willing to bet it’s at least partially from the green colored mesh, so you could spray paint the entire frame and mesh black if you wanted to try that.

I think they are a great buy though and very glad I got them. My plan is to buy stronger crop mesh and custom make enclosures eventually, but it’s a bit more work, and I haven’t had the time.

Yeah I can definitely see them being worth it for outdoor cages during the day. Wouldn't keep them overnight though. I'm using pvc and some TBD screen for full-time outdoor enclosures.

The crop cages look real nice for raising feeders like sticks, hornworms, maybe even BSF
