Praying mantis EGG CASE!!!

Tune I bought it as a pagoda kit from insect lore.com aroudn certain times of the year you can get them...they only live about 6 months and one winter times come they die off. They lay their egg cases before winter and the casings grow the babies until springish and then the eggs usually will start to hatch anywheres from 75-200 little mantids come crawling out.. sometimes more. Yeah insector lore sells them from mid jan - may and whatever supplies is left they will keep selling.....

o and I know its gonna be some hard work keeping these guys XD Even if I will be feeding them off too.... I really dont mind. I think it is fascinating and a fun learning experience to grow creatures from nothing to something. I will keep reading up on these guys and learn as much as I can. Im unprepared at the moment... so I relaly needa start getting my plan together and get teh stuff I need soon..... wont be long especially since I live in a decently hot climate.

I had 1 egg case hatch yesterday and one today. My Parsons like to hunt these little guys.XD

Wow thats impressive and alot of work to get one to that size. I dont know if I could feed him/her off if i'd kept them that long. Sort of like feding off a pet.
But I bet its cool to watch that parsons hunt those.

How long can you keep those babies together before they start eating each other? Also- lets say you got about 125 from the ooth, how many of those would live if they were kept together for a few days??

this ism y first one and it hasnt hatched yet so Icant give you an estimate on how long it takes for ur colony to desipitate. XD

Wow, that is so awesome! Mine hasn't hatche out yet and it's been MONTHS. I did what I was supposed to, maybe it was a bad one.

well they normally hatch anytime spring-summer ish. Mine is supposidly supposed to hatch in 3-6 weeks.... so I would expect anytime within this month for yorus to hatch....

I'm just learning about keeping these. I move them to a bigger container after a couple days and start feeding them small FF. There is some predation but not too much if you keep them fed. When they get a little bigger say 3/4 inch I separate them into 32 oz deli cups. 5 in a cup. It's quite a bit of work for sure feeding and watering hundreds of mantis.

lol I can imagine it being alot of work! I was able to acquire a 5 gallon aquarium from a friend... so I planned on dividing into tthree sections seperate them in there and also clean out one of the big gallon plastic tubs I have over here an cut out spots and put screen on it and seperate that also into sections. I guess with like what.....cardboard maybe? Not sure on that yet....
