Possible Kidney Problems

You're right, but not really knowing if it is kidney disease or parasite leaves a big ? mark. You'll really never know without a blood test.

If it continues to get better I will assume it was the parasites as it has only been about a week since the treatment and I think the horn and silkworms just gave him the little bump back into hydration.

Good News!!

I actually have some great news this time!

I have finally found the source to Waldo's eye problem and am actually pretty disappointed that it took me this long to notice it, though I am very happy to know I will finally be able to help his eye heal and hopefully he will regain some use of it.

While I gave him a thorough eye cleaning today I ran a Q-Tip over the inflamed area of Waldo's eye with the irregular shape. I was doing this to try and push out any debris that could accumulate in the pocket this irregular shape created to keep his eye nice and clean to prevent further infection. As the skin pulled over I noticed a pink area that had a deep gash in it, however the actual cut had a very small surface area. The cut appears to be very deep and I am wondering if the cut might actually be deep enough to expose the actual eye ball and creating a little pocket for bacteria and debris to give Waldo his reoccurring eye infections.

It took me this long to actually notice because I never really paid much attention or thought to the irregular shape as a while back Waldo's vet described it as edema in the eye which made me think it was just simple water retention and was not the main issue of the eye rather being coincidental or a symptom of the actual eye problem. I also didn't see it as it is completely covered by overlapping skin because it is so inflamed.

Anyways this is great news as I can finally treat the actual source of the problem!

And to add to the good news, Waldo had two large silk worms and two large horn worms today, it appears Waldo's appetite is finally increasing.

How will you treat the deep gash? Did you contact your vet?
Nice picture in your earlier thread! Waldo is lookin great!

I still do not know what treatment will need to be done, and I have not contacted my vet yet. I suspect it will be a simple ointment that will need to be administered.

Hi Jake glad to hear he is doing much better. In my experience, yes it was the de-parasiting that made him dehydrate. This is what happened to mine and no matter how much he drank or I sprayed he always had orange urate.

Now just wait. If it keeps working, he will start passing some huge urates as the worms are loaded with water. My ambi passes some urates that are 1/2 to 3/4 inches long. Now he only goes about once a week if im lucky but they are pure white and very long. Its hard to understand for us, with not so much exp, but when on medication they really should be eating very hydrateable foods and not Cricketts and Superworms like you and I were feeding.
We all learn from our mistakes and it sounds like you are on the right track now.

Also glad to hear you found his eye problem out. Good luck with the little one.

The orange urates began before I started treatment for his parasites, I meant that the parasites themselves were causing his dehydration. I should have started getting him on horn and silk worms a while back anyways though.
