Positioning temp probes for herpstat.

Very excited that my boys are getting a Herpstat 4 Spyderweb this week. Where exactly should the probes go? Ir doesn’t make sense to me to affix it to the basking branch as that won’t tell me the temp on the chams’ back. Do I just zip tie them to the top screen and let them dangle where the cham’s back is? TIA.

Attach it to the branch. You will set the herpstat for say 82... This will ensure that where they rise off the branch is not hotter than 85. You aim the fixture towards that branch and probe for the most accurate temp reading.

If I may pick your brain again, I think I read in an old post what size zip ties go through screen.

They are the tiniest ones they make only like 3ish inches long. But they are tiny in diameter.
