Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - Male oustalets, nearly 2. In my care for 16 months.

Handling - Only to administer meds, force feed or shower. Which is unfortunately fairly frequent are the moment. He does not like to be handled.

Feeding - Riker would typically eat 6 locusts/morios/dubias etc in a day but he has been off his food for a month or more. I can get him to eat solids once or twice a week and I've had to supplement him with carnivore care. Insects are gutloaded with sweet potato, butternut squash, carrot and bee pollen.

Supplements - Plain calcium (no D3) every feed. Reptiboost every couple of days due to his ill health

Watering - He has mistking which currently goes off 4 times daily for 5 minutes. I shower him a few times a week and he will drink the 'bath water' (note- this is not standing water, just water from the shower).

Fecal Description - Infrequent and loose. The vet said his fecal exam showed some parasite eggs but 'nothing to get excited about.' I wonder if he said this because there is a more pressing problem to be solved before de-worming treatment can take place.

History - CB import from Germany. He suffered a couple of superficial burns last year when I misplaced his thermostat- these have healed well & he was treated with antibiotics and silverdene at the time.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - Reptibreeze viv, 120cm long, 120cm tall.

Lighting - Arcardia 12% UV, currently set at 7am to 7pm (I change it to match daylight hours)

Temperature - As his cage is large he has 2 basking spots- one is set at 92F, the other at 85F. Thermostat and thermometers are used.

Humidity - Not currently measured but he is misted frequently

Plants - 2 large ficus trees

Placement - On an elevated shelf in our living room. We have lots of other pets but he doesn't appear worried by them.

Location - UK

Current Problem - Riker fell ill about 6 weeks ago. He lost his appetite and began to sit around with his eyes closed- he also had only a partial shed. I took him to my specialist vet who felt his bowl and described it as 'feeling crunchy.' He was admitted to the surgery for a week. Blood tests indicated a chronic inflammatory response and he was started on antibiotics. A fecal exam showed a small number of worm eggs but the vet did not feel treatment was necessary. He was tube fed during this time.
I took him home and for a few days he ate by himself & seemed well (his colour was the best I'd seen in months) but then he went back to square one- not eating, eyes closed. I took him back to the vet and he was given further antibiotics and his bowel still felt 'crunchy'.
After a week of oral baytril, he again seemed to pick up and started eating but over the last couple of days he has stopped eating again & passed a very loose poo. I am supplementing him with reptiboost, which does have a positive effect on him.
I know he needs to go back to the vet, who wants to carry out further tests (difficult as we are in the middle of moving house), but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I don't think he is impacted but there's clearly something wrong with his digestion. His weight is good- 650g
