Pooping eggs

I have the vitamins I give her twice a month but I don’t have a “preformed source of vitamin A” what do you use for that? And yes I know it’s too soon and I took her too the vet not too long ago and the doctor said too extended her light cycle to put her into a summer light cycle and it didn’t help I guess, I know she’s getting old and idk what to do to slow down her eggs
I have a vet appointment on Monday

BTW …I’m not a vet…just speak from years of experience keeping chameleons and many other lizards and reptiles…and from reading a lot.

You said…”the last clutch she laid was in June she said I think 20ish eggs”..if the last eggs were laid in June, then it’s too soon to be laying another clutch…so I’m suspecting retained eggs. There are a few reasons for retained eggs. It could be a move towards egg binding and follicular stasis or it could be deformed/fused eggs or a number of other reproductive issues…but it’s not normal.

You said…”So it’s not normal for them to pass underdeveloped eggs and then go on and lay a clutch after?”…not normal.

A visit to a good chameleon vet and an X-ray would be a good idea IMHO, to see if she has an issue.

@Beman mentioned the casque, etc….and inagree, there may be some other health issues going on.

Do you use a vitamin powder twice a month with a preformed source of vitaminA?

You mentioned underdeveloped eggs, do you have a photo of them? Why do you say they are underdeveloped?
I was also doing research on here and I seen someone say that she’s had a female that popped out a few under developed eggs and went on and laid a clutch?

And they were full eggs, one of them looked under developed but it was laying in the bottom of the cage and I had her dripper on all day so I’m not sure if the water may have made it soft and “under developed” look to it

I just added one more comment to my last post.

How old is she?

Vitamin A comes in two forms…prEformed and prOformed. PrOformed is from carotenoids found in plants and needs to be converted by the chameleon into a usable form and can’t build up in the system so it’s safe. However, there is controversy as to whether all chameleons can convert it or can convert it well enough…so we usually give the prEformed twice a month. PrEformed is from animal sources and is ready to go…so it can build up in the system…and we have to be careful with it.

Look for words like beta carotene for prOformed and retinol for prEformed on the vitamin bottle.

In addition to this, there is an interaction with vitamin D3 and the vitamin A and D3need to be in balance.

She is almost 4 years so I know sadly females don’t live long past that so could it be the age that’s making her produce so many eggs?

She’s showing no signs of pain or swelling, she doesn’t seem weak, but the only appointment they have is on Monday you think she’ll be okay till then?

How much do you feed her, what sizes, and what is your rotation for feeding?

Look back at older pics the last 6 months has her physical body condition changed?

This has vitamin A in it along with the D3. So using this 2 times a month say the 1st and the 15th and then a plain phosphorus free calcium without D3 at the other feedings is what you want.

Here’s what I give her, I give her the vitamins every other week and the calcium with D3 every other week and dust her feeders with the calcium without D3 every feeding, do I not feed her enough is why her casque isn’t fatty enough? I feed her Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and I don’t feed Saturday or Sunday

I’ve been giving her 4-5 crickets per feeding, she usually gets discoid roaches buts it’s been too hot too get them shipped and they arrive dead so I’ve been giving her crickets, I went back and looked at some photos and nothings really changed but I could tell that her casque has gotten less fatty but I feel like that’s Caz the roaches I’ve been giving her were just too small and I wasn’t feeding her enough

Has she been tested for parasites recently? I feed all of my chameleons similar amounts and they are all a healthy size and I have to be careful as they can easily surpass ‘healthy’ into overweight. Here’s my little cutie patootie, Kali, who is also 4 years old. My little lady hasn’t ever laid eggs. You can see how her casque is neither bulging out or very concave. It’s just barely dimpled down. She’s also got a good amount of meat on her and her bones aren’t visible.

Very pretty! So may I ask am I under feeding my cham? And yes the last vet visit she was checked for parasites and she was clear. I’m going Monday too the vet, my cham also popped out 5 more eggs today (9 total now) not sure what’s going on but she was still lively when I got home, she crawled out to me to say high, she ate her crickets today so she still has an appetite, no signs of swelling, the eggs that she’s passing look good🤷🏻‍♂️ idk lol

Ok the supplements will work in the way you are using them. How many insects are you feeding at each feeding day and what size are they? I need to know exacts to rule out being under fed. But looking at her this looks more like illness related. Possibly parasite but could also be something going on internally or even something linked to her reproductive system.

I feed all of my chameleons, male and female, the equivalent of 3-4 feeders every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with a small treat on one of the weekend days. (I prefer to give much smaller feeder insects than they can handle, so they actually get 4-6 each feeding day) From what you’ve said, you feed a similar amount, so your pretty lady should be looking similar to mine. With all of that said, moving forward, to avoid any confusion, I’m going to defer to @Beman who I agree with 100% anyhow.
