Poop scare

I was just cleaning out Kush's cage and saw that he had just pooped. When I picked it up I noticed it was nearly and entire, undigested cricket, minus legs! What does this mean?

Your Chameleon - Male Veiled, 4 weeks old, had him for one week
Handling - Hardly at all, though he has crawled onto my hand while I was trying to feed him a couple of times.
Feeding - He is eating 1/8 to 1/4 crickets. He eats one or two a day. I gutload with cricket food from petstore, plus carrots, orange slices, strawberry, etc.
Supplements - Dusting daily with ExoTerra Calcium without d3, every 2 weeks dusting with ReptiCalcium with d3(gave him his first dose last night). I have both Herptivite multivitamin and Reptivite without d3. I accidentally got the reptivite thinking it was calcium. Haven't given him multivitamins yet, was going to do that next Monday.
Watering - Mist with Motomisterthroughout day. I spray for a couple of minutes each time and wait until it dries to spray again. I also have the big dripper that I use for a constant drip for him to drink. I see him drink quite often.
Fecal Description - They have been normal looking, except when I noticed today that it looked undigested. Urates have been white, though with this poop I am worried about the urate was slightly yellow.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? Reptibreeze 16x16x20. Screen.
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Regular house bulb 40w for basking. ExoTerra ReptiGlo 5.0 compact bulb, 26 watt. Both in a dome fixture. I got him a new bulb yesterday. The breeder gave me the other bulb, and I thought that it might be old, so I got a new one.
Temperature - Basking spot is 87F. bottom of cage is at lowest 70F. Measure with digital thermometer.
Humidity - Usually stays around 70%. Misting and the plants keep it up. I use a hygrometer.
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? I have 2 small umbrella plants.
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? In living room on top of table. Not high traffic. We never have company.
Location - Where are you geographically located? Eastern Kentucky

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. His poop this morning didn't look like he digested the cricket. The urates were slightly yellow.

Your basking temp sounds ok. How soon before bedtime is he eating? They need approx 3 hrs to digest food and can't if temps are low. One thing I learned ( and I like) is every Cham is allowed one bad poo. Keep an eye on him.:)

As long as he can escape out of it there's nothing wrong with a basking temperature of 87.

I guess with that small a cage I would target something more like 83 or 84. Just moving the bulb up a couple of inches would probably make that happen.

Kate's question about when you feed is very good. Sometimes people think they need "3 meals a day" and give them food a couple of hours before lights out. I think you should not feed unless there is at least 4, preferably 6 hours of light left.

All that said, one of my mantras is: everybody is entitled to one bad poop. So, keep an eye on him. If it doesn't happen again, it was just one bad poop. If it keeps happening, then some adjustment needs to be made somewhere.

Oh my goodness...thank you all SO MUCH!! I messed around with the lights and figured out a way to kind of tilt the regular (basking) light so it raises it up some. It lowered the basking temp to right at 80F! He has been so much more active since I did that! It's a drastic change! He even ate a cricket! He is acting like a new chameleon! Thank you SO much!!

and just for the record, sometimes what looks like "undigested poo" may actually be a regurgitated meal that's slightly digested so they can look similar. but if you saw the attached urate, then that's the telltale sign that it was poo.

eliza, if you make your mantra into a bumper sticker, i'll buy one! :D

LOL I'd like one to.:D

I think we should have T-Shirts. Brad could sell them.

Molly, I'm glad he's doing better. When you get him into his big boy cage later, you'll want a nice warm basking spot for him.
