Hello Joe

Go to any home decor or home improvement store. Ask for ZERO VOC Acrylic Latex Paint. Thats what I have used to "seal" my wood enclosures.

I also rely on drippers for providing the vast majority of my chameleons drinking water. This allows me control over where most of the water goes - which is to fall into a collection pan on the bottom of the enclosure. I do also use a mister (manual by hand type sprayer) daily, but not going through litres and litres via misting, so the painted wood is never swiming wet.

Be careful what type of screen you buy to put in the top - chicken wire is kinda sharp edged and might hurt your chameleons feet.

I'd also like to make a suggestion, based on hearing sad stories from other younger people who are new to chameleons. Please take this in the spirit of my trying to be helpful, not that I am talking down to you! My suggestion is to save up a thousand dollars for emergencies and vet visits, and keep it in a savings account for "just in case". I've far too often read panic threads from people who arent able to afford vet visits that are very much required. Vet vitists can get expensive. Husbandry mistakes can result in expensive vet visits. New owners make more husbandry mistakes. I take my own advise on this. I have six thousand in the bank that I have set aside for pet care. I have more than one chameleon, and several other pets, so having this saved away BEFORE I buy new pets ensures that I can be responsible without being in a money panic, should need arise. I am not rich. It took me quite a while to save up the extra cash. But I feel its good to have a buffer, incase of vet needs, in case I loose my job but still have mouths to feed, etc.

There are a whole lot of links to great threads and websites I have found useful in my blog, which you are welcome to checkout.

great advice!!!!

ok thanks for the paint name and all of that advice but i want to know how i could make a dripper/how a dripper works (it always has confused me) :confused. Ive also been saving up my money for over 6 months now but my games consoul broke at the wrong time... that costs £100 to repair so ile have to get a paper round or something, very last thing...could you ensure your chameleon for like £10 a month ($20)?:D

Drainage seems really difficult, ive looked in all of the books and they keep saying there own little ides. The best on i had heard of was a water chamber. where you fence of the bottom of a cage and put mesh over the top, then it fills up with water (of dripper and humidity) then a pump....pumps it out. i dont think that would work because of the water storing up in the chamber. I thought bacteria would build up and the waterproof paint would chip of and my cage would be waterlogged :(
