sounds like a similar toxicity as many aroids like philodendron and pothos.

I believe the plant is a alocasia black velvet, not entirely positive on variation tho.

I found this beauty at Walmart today. Not sure what it is but I could not pass it up. Anyone know what it is so I can look up care for it?

Here's my little one. Yours must have just come from a greenhouse with perfect conditions, because from what I have read and experienced they only like to make 2-3 leaves at a time. At least mine are BIG and healthy ,I love the deep veins they have. Have seen them called African Shield plants which is perfect because that is what they look like!

At least mine are BIG and healthy ,I love the deep veins they have. Have seen them called African Shield plants which is perfect because that is what they look like!

Yeah it seems really healthy. I have not found any sign of bugs. I have it away from other plants anyways just because all the others are under grow lights and supposedly these prefer low light.
