My 5 month old Veield is having tounge trouble. He has to get super close to his food to eat and I can see a red swollen area on the tip. It is obvious his area where he stores his tounge is swollen as well especially near his front legs. I have a vet apt. for Mon. Is there anything I can do in the mean time or even mention to the vet that it might be (not to sure how Cham savey he is).

Housing- Screen cage 2X2X2
Live plants-ficus, schaffela, and fern
Humidity-spray 3x a day and a drip
Lighting- basking blb 50 watt and repti sun 5.0 tube
Temp- 80 degree basking
Supplements- do the raising kitty supplements scheduel
Handling- about 3x a week
Sun- direct 3x per week

I will post pixs soon!!

It sound like a supplementation problem. The swollen area in the throat area is edema. I also believe the tongue issue is vitamin related as well. I don't know the exact reasoning, but I have noticed when I feed silkworms to the animals that have tongue issues (only using their tongue slightly), I saw a difference within a month. I think it has to do with the fat soluble vitamins being absorbed.

What vitamins do you supplement and direct sun...that is not filtered through a window right?

No no window. And I use plain calcium m-Th, D-3 Sat., And multi 2X a month. He is about 5 months old.

Hopefully this worked! The swollen part is where the front legs meet the body. And like I said I've seen the tip of his tounge and theres a bright red spot on it!

I think cleanlines is right.

Keep him hydrated as much as possible and get your cham to the vet...

Good luck

VeiledOwner87...what did your vet say when s/he saw the pictures?
Can you post the pictures here please?

VeiledOwner87 and sarah777...any changes?

It was a long time ago but I think it was gular edema. I changed the gut load I was using and my supplement schedule and it did finally go away. Natural sun is always helpful too.
