Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Blue bar panther chameleon, almost 100% positive female, been in my care since last September

Handling - Before my recent discovery, she was coming out of her cage almost daily. I would open the cage and she would come right out onto my hand or onto the door.

Feeding - She used to be eating about 8 crickets per day, sometimes a horn worm, sometimes meal/wax worms. She used to be more than happen to take from my hand and showed no fear at all. Now she will not at all. Gutload with Nature Zone Total Bites, potatos, carrots, etc.

Supplements - Rep-Cal Calcium with Vitamin D.

Watering - I use a ReptiRain system. Used to have it spray for 15 seconds every hour, which she seemed very accustomed to. After seeing posts on here, I have recently changed it to spray for 60 seconds every 3 hours. Could this change possibly be contributing to her stress? .. I do still see her drinking.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - Zoo Med ReptiBreeze Open Air Screen Cage, Large, 18 x 18 x 36-Inches

Lighting - 15 watt Tropical 25 UVB bulb .. lights are on for 12 hours a day

Temperature & Humidity - Zoo Med Economy Analog Dual Thermometer and Humidity Gauge .. the thermometer is kept in the mid-range of the cage. Temperatures there are around 70 and humidity around 70%

Placement - Cage is in the corner of my bedroom. Low traffic room, just myself coming in and out. Cage next to window, I often bull back the curtains to give her some sunlight. She seems to hang out in that part of the cage that the sun hits when I do so.

Location - NYC Area

Current Problem:

Hi all,

I have a wonderful panther chameleon who was sold to me as a male, and I have recently realized (9 months later) that she is clearly a female.

Aside from her colors she became very plump and started displaying the behaviors that a female does when ready to deliver a clutch. She is also at the age for this to be true.

Since I realized this, I put in a nesting box (this was 4 days ago) in hopes that she would use it.

Since then, she has stayed a black coloration, not eaten, barely moved and will not go anywhere near the box.

I'm become very worried that she might not lay her eggs.. what should I do?!

Describe the egg laying box. She may need something larger or need more privacy. She definitely looks gravid to me. Have you read the care articles under the forum Resources tab? It describes paying boxes.

Also, you are overdosing her with Vit. D3. Please review the supplement info on the resources pages. She should only get D3 twice a month.

Thank you for your reply.

I agree that the box I made may be too small. It is a container than is 8 inches long, about 6 inches wide, and with the sand about 8 inches high. That was the only thing I had on hand on such short notice, and she seemed desperate for somewhere to go so I figured I would try it.

Now, however, I am afraid to start moving things around again in fear that she will become even more stressed. Should I still go ahead and get a larger container for her?

As for the D3, I should have mentioned that I do not dust ALL of her food with it, but I certainly did not realize I was only supposed to do it only twice a month, so thank you very much for that!
