You can get lots of plants that look cool, that are live. The risk with fake ones is veiled tend to eat vegetation, and if they manage to eat a chunk of fake plants it could cause major problems, such an an impaction. They could also damage their mouths in the process of trying to eat a fake plant.
Normally veiled are less inclined to eat fake plants, but the risk is still there. You have to put your chams needs first.. despite if something looks cool.
There is lots of plants out there that are safe, some do have a fair bit of color. Such as wandering jew, grows fast and colorful. Bromeliads are more of an accent plant (as is wandering jew) but they are colorful as well, when in bloom.
