Plant soil and plants?

Doing some research and trying to find out what the best "soil" is to use for potted plants in an enclosure. I have my cages 24x24x48 reptibreeze and a 18x18x36 penn plax screen habitat but no chameleons YET :). Trying to get everything in line first.

Also wanting to get some ideas on what your experience has been so far on what plants seem to thrive best in this type of enclosure with a 6500k linear bulb as well as a 5.0 UVB

I've used organic and non-organic and I like non-organic better bc I don't any bugs with it vs the organic. Just make sure to cover the top of the soil with large river rocks.

As far as plants, my favorites are the umbrella tree and a pothos. Make sure to haw a 6500k fluorescent linear light bulb to help the plants survive.

Thanks, I alway get confused on organic and non organic when it comes to them having fertilizers in it.
Is there a non organic soil of choice? I know or have read that most non organic soils tend to be "disposable" since the plants can only get so many nutrients from it.

use a soil that doesnt have pesticides that could be taken up to the leaves (which might be chewed on). Cover it with large river rocks or landscape cloth so the cham doesnt have opportunity to eat it and bugs dont get into it. Beyond that the choices are endless.
I like organic steralized soil supplemented with sea soil, fish ferts and bat ferts. But I wouldnt hesitate to use whatever I had on hand.

So I am assuming I can just use the same potting soil that comes in the plant originally. Just need to wash the plant off with some light soap and water right? Do you guys just spray the down. Going to try and pick one up tomorrow

I change the soil on all my plants. The plants seem to grow better with new soil. At least for me anyways.
