will a plant light help the ivy or any plant in the cage to grow at a faster rate? can they have a reverse effect on a vieled like i have heard that those compact bulbs can do to cams? id like to put on about mid cage so that the plants can soon engluf the cage.?

Don't use the compact bulb. As for the plant light, are you talking about UVB??

I also would like to know about this

I am currently using flouro tube 7.0 bulbs

but wanted to know if I can use additional lights to help my plants

the ones i've seen are sold by phillips called

plant and aquarium lights

when fired up they are sort of a pinkish spectrum that is suppose to help plants.....does anyone know if this would be bad to add for my chameleon?

Special plant lights are not necessary. Regular full spectrum "daylight" bulbs will work for plants. If the plants in the enclosure are high light plants, or you have a large enclosure the addition of another bulb may help. Daylight bulbs (tubes anyway) are safe for chameleons. I have a 2 foot double strip light (shop light) one bulb is the UVB bulb, the other is a daylight bulb.
With higher light plants may need to be watered more often and require more fertilization.

thank you

I may use some day light bulbs

but I have these special plant bulbs that are brand new and can't see a reason not to use them in addition to my regular lighting unless they are not good for chameleons, I fired them up on the cage and it has a nice mixture with his 7.0 lights

If u plan on using a compact bulb be sure that the chameleon has enough room to escape the light. They are good for plants. Use exo-terra they are more safe than the flukers brand.

i found that adding a lower wattage incandescent bulb help my plants to grow better.
You want to use lower wattage to avoid raising the temp of the cage so much that your chameleon is affected by it.
I don't think plants need UVB that much.

i seen the phillips tube light, i now have a dual 24" 5.0 repti sun, i would want to add one but i figued id leave the uvb in there because i would ratherthe cam have plenty vs worry about the plants. but would one of those blue painted plant lights from walmart work for plant growth. or does just the ones in the cam cage plenty for plant growth.
