hows everybody doing?...ok heres my problem, ive had my vielied cham for about 4 months now and ive never handled him before, and now hes a viscious beast, lol, everytime i mist his cage or even open the cage he starts puffing up lunging and hissing like a rabbit animal, lol,oh and he also gets dark purple spots on him when hes mad too,i just think thats pretty cool, lol, but is there any way i can tame him enough to get him to climb on my hand?

What kind of lighting are you using?

Do you hand feed him at all? Like let crickts/roachs loose and feed him a few treats by hand?

i use the proper lighting,i temp in his basking spot is at 90 and the cage is pretty big 4 feet tall,i just finished builinding it for him,and no i dont hand feed him i let the crickets loose in his cage,i dont have trime to hand feed him cause i throw crickets in there before i go to wrk

Well when you get home and if you can make time before offer a treat like a silkworm or superworm. Once he know you are the keeper of tasty snacks he might just mellow out and greet you each time you come in knowing he might get a tasty treat.

I kind of dissagree with Trion. No offense.

My veiled knows his tasty treats come from me, he knows I'm the provider of all things he likes, but he still hates me with his whole heart. Veileds are pissy and territorial and they don't like you. If you spent all day every day hand feeding and handling etc, maybe he'd put up with you more, but you can probably count on him hating you forever. ;)

A lot of members here have very calm docile chams, some even seem to like their owners a bit. But most veileds will hiss and lunge and snap at you, no matter how much you court them.

We also know there is a wide range of behavior from veilds so it never hurts to try and feed him worms right from your hand. Many times people have seen a change once their chameleon becomes accustomed to them. He may still be hateful but it doesnt hurt to try.

ya im gonna try, plus i havent ever fed him anything but crickets so i think its time to give him a new treat,i did try super worms once, but he didnt touch them

Silkworms are white.... My Veiled has much attitude also but to bad. I just go in and get him out. Once he is out he calms down. I am sure as he gets bigger I will take a little more time to get him out. I dont want to get bite.

Be patient

When my veiled was 4 months he was a true a-hole! He would come off his perch as soon as I entered his room and wait by the door to his cage. He hissed, puffed up, spit and lunged. He would bite me multiple times EVERY time. If he had the ability, he would have thrown his droppings at me. I was very patient and would talk in a low voice to him, always approach him from a lower position and bring him fresh caught treats like roaches, flies, grubs and an occasional baby gecko. That was two months ago and he is MUCH better. Just keep at it. Good luck. David

Forgot to tell you

Alot of times they are more bluff than bite. Once you get them out they are usually fine. Put your flat open hands on each side of him and make him climb on your hand. He may change completly when he's away from his cage. Good luck again. David

hmmm my cham is about to hit 4 months old soon.
He start to develop an attitude with a capital A!
And plus he started his hunger strike two days ago..
He only wants to eat something that can fly.
:(

I agree with everyone else on this board. you cham may never like you, just something you will have to learn to live with. On top of that being that chams are so delicate you dont wanna handle him too often cuz they can stress out and cause health issues if over stressed. Picking him up once in a while is cool but try not to make it a daily thing. Something I have learned, When we pick up scooter hes pissed off more than your mom when she caught you trying to catch the kitchen table on fire... but once we pick him up, hes cool, chill relaxed and doesnt have an issue with us. Its that initial grabbing that he doesnt like.

I have an 8-month female veiled that has a big attitude. I have about a one year old male veiled that's the friendliest. He sits on his branch and watches me in my room. When I walk across he follows me with his head. When I open his cage to pick him up, the most that he does is try and walk away. I just slip my hand underneath his chin so he starts walking on my hand and then I take him out. I hope he never tries to bite me because he's a big guy and i know for sure those jaws have some bite in it. The female on the otherhand, once I have her on my hands she still tries to bite at my fingers, but then relaxes after a few minutes. I don't handle her very often because of her attitude towards me.
