Yes, I'm on board with the others... I am guessing you are not sure of the age either if you do not know the type and gender.

its definatley a female, its very tricky to tell the locales of those females though....

It's a female panther for sure but i don't get how you can tell the local if it's a female? I have females from multiple locals and wouldn't be able to tell you their local if i didn't know. The only ones i would say have any different appearance would be the ambanja females on rare occasions show extreme amounts of blue and purple but then again i have ambilobe females that have the blue and purple tones heavily as well so your guess is as good as mine. The only true way to tell an unknown female panthers local is to breed her to a male you know is 100% pure from a certain local. However then you have a bunch of mixed babies if your guess was wrong and then you would have to sell them as such or sell them to a pet store who would then call them whatever they wanted just to make a buck and it would turn out bad. Lol Sorry for rambling i was just confused/curious how ataraxia instantly deemed it an ambilobe being as it is a female and comes from unknown origin. If you have a sure way of telling females apart i'm sure me and every other panther chameleon breeder would love to hear it. lol. I'm not trying to be mean, just making sure misinformation isn't given to the keeper who just got this female.

im no expert on chams so definitely it is a "GUESS" as stated. i recently purchased two female and one male blue bar ambilobe. beautiful females that colored as well as the male at that age and honestly i never go by the colors they throw *at that age*. they give you a good guess at first but imo i wont stand back and look at a cage full of panthers and say ok thats a male of female *at that age* just from color. im just going off of the markings down the side of the cham around the eyes and on the ridge of the back. yes most panther locales look very similar but idk like i said im no cham expert and wont ever claim to be.

Wow thanks guys for your replies, I must admit though that I am slightly saddened as I did specifically ask for a male, the guy had five in the store and chose this one saying the most "probable male" Is there any chance she will get any colour? as this is going to be my only cham I was hoping for a spectacular one!

she won't get colors like a male panther but she look very nice

Yes what you have there is a female. She won't be as colorful as a male but will show some colors like peaches. You would need to have a male if your wanting the spectacular coloring.

Well I am going to call the pet store tomorrow and tell him I've spoken to ppl who know what they are talking about when it comes to sexing panthers and I'm not happy that he deceived me, he is the owner of a reptile store, thats all he sells,reptiles, so he must have known he was giving me a female, so I'm gonna see what he says. I've only had her 3 wks tops, so he should own up and either give me a male like I asked for or refund me, I think so anyways.
I have a breeder that I trust and see weekly as they are my feeder company too who said she has a few veiled male babies left, 100% males this time, so depending on what happens with the pet store if I get my way I will be buying my friends veiled instead.
This lil one is cute and pretty, but I only want one cham, so I wanna make the right choice don't ya think.
