Pesticides on Hisbicus

I bought a lipstick hisbicus at my local Target a week ago. I am watering it everyday and misting the leafs. The plant has not gone in the cage enclosure yet, but my question is how long does it take for the pesticides to leave?

While the plant is in my possession I have never sprayed it with any chemicals, and my family never uses any on plants. So would the misting of leaves eventually get rid of this?

Put it in your bathtub with some liquid soap and tilt it over on its side to get the leaves all in the soapy water and kinda swish them around. Then rince all the soap off. Its what i do to all my plants.

That may rinse off any dust or powders that are on the plants
However its not going to do very much to a systemic poison

Washing the plants off is a great start as is flushing the soil with water
but I also place all the plants out and into the garden for 6 weeks
making sure they're getting as much sun as possible.
UV radiation will help break down most of the poisons via exposure.

Generally all the green house raised plants will shed the old (potentially poisoned) leaves
and replace it with new growth.
it's then that I place them into the cages to be nibbled on. ymmv

here are some good new plant tips..

transplant into container with rocks at the bottom so no dirt can come out, helps keep area cleaner with constant misting

wash tops and bottoms of leaves

I don't like my chams playing in my dirt, and my dirt occasionally gets small insects, so I crush up mosquito dunks and line the top of my container with it and cover that in hydroton so my cham is not exposed to it, even though its non toxic
