Royden, you have seen what Ardi Abate saw in the 1990's (and I see as well), the bigger picture of Chameleon Husbandry. At Chameleon's Husbandry's best, it is still short of Chams in their habitat. As keepers we do the best to replicate nature, but we can never achieve the same as a Cham in the wild.
In the 1990's, F4 and F5 generations were rarely achieved (mostly Paradalis), and if they were, hatch rates decreased, and offspring were quick to die. To me this dispels the idea that captive breeding can reduce the pressure on wild caught Chams being imported. We will always have a need for wild caught Chams to keep captive animals.
Royden you were brave to state your view, and I commend you for doing so. By the way, are you flooded out? I'm in Puyallup, and am dry as a veiled in Yemen!

CHEERS!!!

. I've seen alot of people struggle through an inner turmoil of realizing how much they care for their chameleon, and that the next level to perfecting the care of this lizard...is removing yourself . Your absence, in a free range jungle full of food and females..would complete their care.

I totally agree. The best way to care for a chameleon is to leave it in its natural environment.

In some ways, the best way to care for the planet would be for people to pretty much dissapear.

Thanks Nick! We're wet but I'm up on a hill in Bothell. No flooding for me, just the damned drizzle.

I actually disagree with you Sandra. The weight of man's incredible responsibilty is that he has the power to make earth a better place or a worse place.

Think about it..the ideal home for a chameleon isn't the jungle either. It's a jungle free of predators, free of people, full of food, and without natural disaster. Only humans could provide that. Kind of ironic eh?

Mankind is truly the plot of this planet. What will happen next? Will we make the right choice or the wrong one? Without us..this planet is an empty scene..an unfinished story.

but..I digress...a lot...

sorry YigosFlower.

The hobby, I think, is really the husbandry.
Chameleons (as we know) are not animals you really interact with.
What we do as keepers is create interesting environments, raise food, provide proper lighting conditions, water, temperatures and humidity.
We look for clues that the animals we are caring for are healthy, we attempt breeding projects and raise the babies from successful ones.

A lot of people don't get it (especially those with little or no interest in reptiles)
The challenge is awesome, The rewards are numerous but love is something you will not get back from your chameleon.;)

Thanks, your first line really make sense! I kinda figured it came with the territory of reptiles in general. As said, this is just the type of pet im looking for. I've been down the cute, cuddly, 'love me' pets road (still on that road actually)& am ready for something a little less needy, emotionally though. I think it will be well understood if he doesnt show affection. I understand when i get a rescue sugar glider & they dont like me, even though they are supposed to enjoy people. haha

Something i can sit back & watch without feeling guilty hes not out of the cage will be perfect. (Granted i do know that not every time i see him will i be allowed to relax.) hehe

I stay at home with my son all day, so the general care like feeding, misting, making sure temps are ok, etc are not a big worry time wise.

Again, i thank everyone for their great advice.

I get the distinct feeling your new Cham will be WELL taken care of!! Welcome to the Forum!:)
