Penn Plax Cages

My little Ambilobe buddy Malcolm is growing so fast I am going to have to set up his big boy cage 2 month earlier than I expected, so I am in the market for a 2x2x4.

I saw this Penn Plax cage available for the same price as a Reptibreeze or DIY (I require a black cages for cosmetic purposes). It would be cool to have an acrylic door to make for more pleasurable viewing of his beautiful colors.

Does anyone have experience with Penn Plax cages? I am specifically interested in the quality of the build, resistance to corrosion, an affect of the acrylic door on humidity/air flow.

I have a few, and I love them! I have had them for roughly 5-6 months without any issues. If you leave the sides open, instead of covering them the acrylic door has little effect on humidity, heat, or airflow. If you cover the sides up it will hold heat and humidity better, and still allow for plenty of airflow.

The quality is very good, with extra support braces all around and the one on top is strong enough to hang a large hanging pothos.

I appreicate the prompt response and great information. I am about to pull the trigger, the only thing that is holding me back is I can't find the specs on the mesh screen anywhere (aluminum vs coated steel) and wanted to verify it is aluminum and won't corrode.

Do you see any rust on any of your cages after 6 months of use?

I am 99% positive it is aluminum screen. None of mine have any rust whatsoever

Just wanted to chime in. I bought a 18x18x36 from a pet store that was a good ways from me, when I got it home it was missing a part. I sent an email to customer service and they were on it. I received the missing part in a few days. Then once I put it together and took the clear coat off the front door it looked like it had gotten hot during storage somewhere before I bought it. The wrinkles from the clear wrap on the acrylic had kind of melted into the door as far as pattern. which sucked as the main reason i got it was for the acrylic door. I wrote them back and they tried to send me a new door but that size has been discontinued and they could not find one in their warehouse. So they are sending me the next size up cage for replacement. They were spot on with responding and making right on the product. Most of the time I would have taken it back to the place I bought it but it was a couple of hours away so I tried penn plax customer service first and glad I did!!
