hi all im new here, me and my partner have both had chamelons before, my last died at 6 months after he fell from a branch after trying so so hard to protect him with MBD. :(
i also had a eastern collard lizard who dies of old age this week....been a bad year for reptiles in my house.
im so keen to get another chameleon, ive never had a panther before, ive read a lot about the difference between them but wondered if any one who has had both now has a preference and why??
many thanks
Angel

Welcome to the Chameleon Forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons. I would highly recommend plenty of research before getting another chameleon. That was very sad about your first one and loosing your collard lizard to old age must really be tough. I keep veileds and panthers and veileds are my absolute favorite species. They are so smart and show so much personality. Below I'm attaching my blog for new keepers. Hope you will find it helpful. Jann

thanks for your advice :)
i have had several before, well most were my parents but they have always been around just never a panther! i adore veileds, and i was so gutted when rango (i have a 4 year old son and ran out of reasons why he couldnt be named that lol) died.
i guess its more a question of do i stick with what i know and love or venture out to a panther which im sure are amazing also!
my mexican collard lizard was never really planned for but he wasnt being looked after (shoe box in airing cupboard!!!) and had a terrible skin condition and needed treatment he wasnt getting. but that was 7 years ago and im rather missing having a reptile!

To be honest, the care for a veiled and a panther is very much the same.

so it comes down to.. waht you want.

panthers have colors like a rainbow.
veileds have the huge casque.
both can be grumpy, or both can tolerate you.

veileds are cheap, panthers are not.

:D

I've owned both. Sadly my veiled died down to a returning abscess and was put to sleep in the end but this hasn't put me off that particular species and about to be a owner again of a veiled wednesday. But I love both species equally but veileds are alot cheaper, from my experience and the different breeders I've come across you can pay as little as £35 for a vieled or a little more, panthers and depending on their local can be £200+

They are both unique in their own right and a veiled may appeal to one person and a panther another, all depends on your peference and what visually appeals to you.
