Panther locale humidity question.

I live in Las Vegas, so keeping my humidity up in a screen cage is a struggle. It hovers around 50 between mistings but will drop to 30 if the humidifier runs dry. I do have a ficus in there, and plan to add more live plants. I've been reading as much as possible and this forum has been a great source of information. I'm trying to get everything perfect before I decide which Cham to get. I know I probably should be looking at a Veiled but a Panther is what I would really like. My question is about the microclimates of Madagascar. I read on the species database how there are rainforest and dry forest locales. So for example, do Nosy Be's need more humidity because they're from a smaller island then say an ambilobe because they're more inland? Is there a particular locale that will be happy in the lower end of the humidity scale?

I have no idea when it comes to panthers what so ever, but I might have a little tip regarding the humidity levels in your enclosure...

Our house is REALLY dry, like maybe 10-20% humidity. This was really bad for our new screen enclosure. Even after misting it would only be at around 40% tops :( That wasn't good, for obvious reasons, so my husband and I put some plastic wrap around the enclosure. Now the humidity sits a lot higher, between 40% and 80%, depending on how long I mist and how long after I misted. I would really recommend that, as you can then have plenty of locales you never thought possible!

But if you don't want to put any wrap around, I cannot help you in choosing a locale :(

I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but I thought it might provide a bit of help!

Thisis an interesting question because madagascar is such a big place and has many different environments with different locales. They are all the same species so i think most of the differences in locales are "skin deep".
This is a guess really, not really sure but i think the high humidity is important for each one.

i also think that plastic wrapped around 2 or even 3 sides would be best, but would also like some info on any panthers that in nature live in drier areas of madagascar if someone knows.

I think this could turn in to a very interesting discussion.everything I've read on panthers keeping and care classes all locales together.however coming from such a big spread of area there has to be differences in their natural habitat.I'd like to know more on this

I read that the weather is way different too, depending on what part of Madagascar. Everywere from humid rain forest to dry arid plains!!
I think it's the 3rd (or 2nd??) largest island in the world.

Anyway, to help with RH, I tape sheets of clear plastic on the back and one side (usually, the left) of the cage. That helps alot, esp when
I have my mistking going off every few hours plu a few humidifiers
