Panther dropping eggs

Harry, I've always noticed that pregnant females in their later stages, or during develoment have always taken a liking to silkworms over anything else I've offered them. I can't admit to offering them butterworms while in this state, but over crickets, supers, mealies, roaches, and waxworms, silkworms were received the best.

Just a thought.

Are you going to have an xray done when she is done laying just to make sure that all the eggs have been expelled?

Hope she lays them all for you!

I haven't considered an xray. If an xray indicated a remaining egg(s), what could the vet do , aside from attempts to induce egg laying ( oxytocin)???

Surgery is rarely if ever successful. I'm sure statistically survival is less than 50%.

Well, heres an update, but its not conclusive. The female got another 2 doses of oxytocin and injectable calcium on Friday evening . She was placed in her bucket and she did have slight involuntary contractions. She did stick her rear end into one of the existing holes and attempted to lay eggs, but nothing was layed. I did give her 24 hours in the bucket with peace and seclusion. As of today , she is still off her food , although I am force feeding and syringing water. She is still roaming the ground , rather restless .

I did palpate her abdomen and I could not detect any remaining eggs, but she does indicate that she , at least , thinks there are eggs left to lay, by her behaviour.

Going forward, I will continue to force feed and water her. But , as for more vet intervention, I don't think any other procedure is viably left to attempt.

Hi everyone:

My female has not layed anymore eggs. She is slowly hydrating and I am still force feeding butterworms, but she is looking strong and she appears to be much thinner., almost as if she has lost fluids in her abdomen. What appeared as a still gravid female 5 days ago, now looks like a recovering female , who has passed all her eggs. I am very much of the assumption that she may have layed or dropped all her eggs , even though they only totalled 15 eggs.

She looks quite comfortable and not at all stressed. I'm hoping for the best...

What a saga.........

What a long saga..........you must be stressed out after all this! It's good news that she is hydrating. I did have one female several months ago drop all her eggs. She refused to use the egg laying container in her cage or to use the trashcan for nesting. Instead she hung on a branch and dropped them one by one on the cage floor. The eggs are in the incubator and appear to be good. Not sure what her issue was. Her sister laid a clutch normally under the same conditions. Hopefully she will get to the point soon where she is eating and drinking adequately on her own so you can take a break

My female is a veteren. She has layed about 4 clutches in the past without any issue... so strange . And I have another female laying eggs right now in the same bucket , as we speak, so its not the bucket that was the problem.

Hey Harry.

Now I have had this work for me but it is probably a little stressful on the chams. I get a bucket and fill it to the top with her "mud". Then I wrap something like bristol board around the bucket so it is impossible for her to escape. The girl that was dropping eggs paced around the inside of the bucket for a few hours. Then eventually dug a shallow hole (about 4 inches) and laid her eggs. She had 40 in her and those are the ones that are due in the next couple weeks. However this is the one that I was telling u about that has triple clutched on me. So your girl might not take to it like mine did............i got a weird one here. Hopefully she lives through it. I have lost 2 veileds that were dropping eggs wherever they please. I tried everything and they just wouldn't pass them. After they died I cut them open and took the eggs out. In both cases there was a broken egg right at the cloaca. I'm really hoping thats not the case that u have. I felt really bad for them because there was nothing that could be done.
