Hello all, I'm new to the forums.
I've been looking into chameleons on and off for the past two years, but I have yet to commit to actually purchasing a chameleon of any type. I'm not unfamiliar with their housing/temperature (and other basic husbandry) requirements. At the present, my concerns are more centered around temperament. I have had the opportunity to see some large, male veilds in person. They were gorgeous, and absolutely fascinating; I was a bit intimidated by the aggression toward handlers I witnessed in that particular species, however. I've only ever had leopard geckos and bearded dragons -- I've never had to worry about my fingers getting bit up. I understand that chameleons are delicate, easily stressed and should not be held frequently. I just want to be sure that I can adequately care for/interact with the animal before bringing it into my home.
I am mostly interested in panther chameleons, but I've not yet seen any of these in person. I am especially interested in learning about what's common regarding the temperament of male panthers. I read on the Screameleons site that they tend to be better natured/more docile than most other chameleons. Outside of that, I've seen varying opinions.. Admittedly, I am a little confused at this point. Some have claimed that they can be relatively friendly and personable, others have claimed that they can be aggressive and nasty when approached.
So, in all, male panther chameleons: More likely to be relatively gentle, or aggressive (based on your experience)?
