Panther Chameleon - Male? (Huey)

This is Huey, bought him as a male from a shop in March. In my earlier post, my female panther chameleon turned out to be a male. I bought Huey 2 months earlier than Hula but he was eating poorly for a period of time and now Hula has outgrown him.

Can the seniors please help to verify Huey's gender?

Looks to be a female. By this time in its growth there would be visible color for a male panther chameleon if you look at the base of the tail, it dips in rather than having a bulge.

Thanks for the inputs. Her recent colour changes have confirmed that she is a female. I am still trying to learn where I went wrong in the beginning.

This was an earlier photo of her when I got her not too long. How can we tell from the photo that its a she?

Thank you for the photo with the bulge outlined. Certainly very useful. I have also read that page in the blog several times. One of my favourite reading resources.

Sorry, with females it is anyone's best guess as to the local. Breeding might be able to help find an answer through the young but even then it is a guess.

No way to say what locale it is. Ambilobes can get U bars too, so that doesn't mean anything.

Like said above you could breed her to say an Ambilobe and keep the offspring back until they are 5-6 months old and showing full color/barring and see what they looks like. Even then it isn't 100%. I've seen a few that the person knows they are a cross and they look like a regular ambilobe.

Is there a particular reason you think she might be Sambava or Ambilobe? What was she sold as?

The shop sold her as an ambilobe or sambava and can't confirm the locale because the batch of babies was mixed. He did try his best to select a male for me but it turned out to be a female.
