Panther Chameleon gender

Hello all,

I need help identifying the gender of this beautiful 8mo old panther chameleon. The pet shop says they think it’s a male which they charge way more for. I thought I saw a hemipenes bump but it was difficult to distinguish.

Right now they have it in a small glass terrarium with 3 other panthers and they are all visibly stressed so I want to get it out of there ASAP.

Thank you for your help.

Buy that baby asap please. In the first pic, I do see a hemipenal bulge I think. I am not the best at sexing panthers. Even if it is a girl, they are gorgeous in their own right and the egg thing really isn’t that terrible as long as your husbandry is correct.

I am getting it now to get it out of the terrible conditions I just don’t want to pay the additional $200 if it’s a female

Well, this is what I’m looking at that makes me believe he’s a he.

The blue is where I see the subtle shadow to indicate he’s got some hemipenes inside. If a girl, the line of the tail would be more along the pink line and with no bulge or anything past the little vent bulge. For $200, I do hope I’m right. 🤞

thank you so much for your input. I went back and decided that $200 extra to get the poor thing out of that glass terrarium is worth it. I got it home and immediately set up a 48in high screen cage with a 36in T5 HO UVB , a 60w heat bulb, vines a pothos plant and some fake leaves I had laying around for some cover. He is still super stressed and took to the screen and climbed to the top and has remained there for the last hour. Im just leaving him be and letting him/her to explore their new environment.

Was it in there with Panthers showing bright colors? I can not tell if it is a male. Pale coloring could indicate stressed male but could indicate a female. But the reason why I ask about what was in the cage with it is if this is a female and they had it with males at 8 months old. If the males were of breeding age as well she could have bred with them. Hoping this isnt the case. But it is a possibility.

once I got him home and settled in the new enclosure by himself he looks completely different. I’m thinking he was just very stressed.
